Today I changed the air filter on my new-to-me Crossrunner (it's a 2012 model). On taking off the side panels I discovered the rubber item shown in the photo below. The wire has been cut on one end and inside the cover is a pair of terminals.

It looks like it has been cut deliberately and I can find no negative effects.

There is also a thin earth wire connected to the frame just behind the rubber thing which has been cut. Can anyone suggest what that should have been connected to?

I have the wiring diagram for the earlier normal VFR but haven't identified either yet.

As an aside getting to the filter was a total pain because of the fairing panels. It's like a damn puzzle getting them apart, way too much work involved for such a simple task. This bike is a pain to work on.

It's a blade fuse holder, possibly once used for an alarm or to protect that reg/rec against over-charging.

Being a VFR I'd bet it was for a voltmeter.
