One of my motorcycles is upcoming its 40th birthday, my little Honda NC50 Smile Doesnt have an mot as of this moment

Does this mean its going to be MOT exempt soon?

The DVLA website is very dull and literally just says

"Vehicles that qualify need to be of 40 years of age"

Just looking for advice on this really

Thank you

Yes.

It may still be a condition of your insurance though. Also "Vehicles made before 1 January 1978 are exempt from 1 April 2018." but "You still need to apply for vehicle tax even if you don't need to pay vehicle tax." Rolling Eyes

I've just been through this with my 1977 GT500. You will get issued with a new V5 classing the bike as a historic vehicle and as stated above you still have to apply for tax.

To get the process rolling you'll have to go to a post office. I suggest if you can find one, a main post office would be better. I did mine at a rural shop with a PO counter and despite the woman being very helpful, they don't seem to be trained in things like this. Eventually got it sorted and I've got my new V5.

Regarding the insurance question, I'm with Carole Nash and as far as I'm aware they're not looking for a MOT if exempt but bike must be roadworthy. My policy is up for renewal soon so will read through terms then.
