Folks often wild camp on the grass above the beach at the opposite end of the bay to the main town. At this time of year, I'd be very surprised if there isn't someone there when you rock up though.
The owner of the campsite has been known to get shirty and come down all pointy finger but Sheldaig fire brigade have told him if he calls them out one more time to an under control campfire on the beach, they'll send him the bill.
I'm pretty sure that was his cue to wind his neck in, I've not heard of an incident for a while. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Again, not strictly wild-camping but there is an "official", free/donation camping area at Sheildaig at the top of the steep hill at the end of town (up the hill from the public toilets).
It was getting a bit ploughed up by motorhomes last time I was there but I suspect they may have pissed on their chips by now by either forcing someone into taking action to stop them going on or having chewed the entrance up enough to get stuck in the attempt.
There are loads of places you could roadside camp all round there though. My advice is to stop, get off the bike, open your visor and stand about for five minutes before you take any of your gear off. Be ready to run if the midges appear. They can be thick enough in some places that you wouldn't want to have taken your lid off when they appear. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I found chain-smoking helps. On balance, I think it'd be better to die of cancer than a billion micro-vampire bites
Tip: have the Skin-So-Soft readily available. Apply as you remove your bike gear. Glove off, apply to hand and wrist. Other glove off, apply to that hand and wrist. Helmet off, apply to face, neck (don't forget to do behind your ears, dear), and hair. Eyebrows. Don't forget your eyebrows. Going for a piss? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Hope you left some of the sunny weather for me this weekend. I'm heading up in the direction of Gairloch.
I always find that Invergarry road inexplicably hard to ride and overtake on. I just can't get the feel for it somehow, I seem to cock up all the corners. I'll nail it one of these days.
I'm just hoping all the good roads aren't thick with campervans though. The NC500 has a lot to answer for! ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

That means one of your gloves will be covered in cream? |
If I remember rightly, the bottle I had wasn't a cream, but a liquid. Trying to remember if it was actually a pump spray; not sure, but think it was.
In any case, if I had the opportunity, I'd dive in a bath of it fully clothed before exposing myself to the scourge! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
