Hi,

I have a 2010 YBR 125 which has been sat in the garden for the best part of 12 months. Finally decided to get my act together and get it sold or part exchanged but, unsurprisingly it won't start. New battery, fuel pump and spark plug, clean fuel and oil. It is turning over, trying hard to start but just won't go. Have tried electric start and kick start but no luck. Electrics all appear good. Anyone mind sharing what I should check next, my mechanical knowledge isn't amazing but I'm OK with a bit of direction.

Any help much appreciated

If you have a spark try removing the air filter and squirting some easy start spray into the air intake.

Is the spark plug sparking with the sound of a little crack noise?

Is it still outside in the sun? Is the fuel pump priming? You should be able to hear it?

Reason I ask, is a fair few older YBRs (mine included) are suffering being out in the sun due to a fuel pump issue

Basically, when the tank gets hot, the fuel pump fails to prime properly, and the bike won't start

Thats a good point. My YBR 250 is kept outside and this morning was a little reluctant to start - it is in the sun all day.

Appreciate all the advise but still no luck so far.

I put a new fuel pump in as the old one was shot, new one primes when ignition switched on so think that's OK.

New spark plug and is definitely sparking, checked it earlier.

So frustrating, think a lift to the garage might be needed!!

If you have a good spark as you say then a squirt or two of easy start spray should give it a run for a second or two.
If not then you have a serious problem.

Can get it to run for a second, maybe 2 but no more. Any final advice before I completely give up? 🙏

Leave it alone for a while and then spin it over and then take out the spark plug and sniff it. There should be a strong smell of petrol and it probably ought to look damp with unburned fuel if the fuel is getting through.

I'm making an assumption that the bike has fuel injectors if it has a fuel pump.

If you have a fat spark and the engine will run with damp start until the squirt of ether has been used up, then it isn't getting petrol into the cylinder.

Sounds like it's not getting fuel.

I'm not familiar with this bike, but I'd double check the fuel pump.

Pull the pipe that goes to the motor and stick it in a bottle. Turn the bike on. See if fuel comes pissing out.

Not sure if they can be installed backwards / pipes around the wrong way?

Does this bike have a fuel filter? If so, it might be blocked.

Otherwise, I'd guess at a blocked injector / jet (FI or carb)?

Just checked and definitely has fuel coming through the pipe, got most of it on my hands! Pump is running and there is a small filter attached to the pump which I replaced a coupe of weeks ago.

Spark plug isn't damp but does smell of fuel.

It is fuel injected. How would I check/clear the jets?

Not sure on your bike sorry. Hopefully someone will be along to help.

I did find this page on a quick google search which talks about testing the injector - https://ybr125owner.blogspot.com/2014/06/yamaha-ybr-125-fuel-injection-system-fi.html

and FI diagnostics on the YBR - https://ybr125owner.blogspot.com/2014/06/yamaha-ybr-125-fuel-injection-system-fi.html
