For someone who can't even Spell the name of the company we're talking about correctly, (it's one "L" not two), please explain why Philips Group would give a toss about the UK, when most of what they make in the UK is for export and their sales in the UK are a tiny fraction of their worldwide sales!

In your original, indignant, post about Philips group, not one single thing you wrote was true, (par for the course), and apparently it's me who falls for propaganda. Rolling Eyes

From the horses mouth:-

Quote:
Philips spokesman Steve Klink said he was “deeply concerned” about the competitiveness of the company’s UK manufacturing operations, which are primarily focused on export from the UK. “Take our factory for baby care products in the UK,” he said. “Already today, our costs are negatively impacted by the volatility of the British pound.

“Moreover, for its UK exports, Philips relies on the single customs union, as well as current European Free Trade Agreements and EU product certifications.

“We estimate that the cost of the exported products will increase substantially under any scenario that is not maintaining the single customs union.

“We estimate the additional costs to be in the order of high-single-digits as a percentage of sales.

“This is a serious threat to the competitiveness of this factory, so we need to prepare for a broad range of scenarios, including a worst case scenario in case of a ‘hard’ Brexit.”

But that's just propaganda, according to you.

FYI I don't read the Guardian!

God Emperor President Donald Trump talks of UK 'turmoil' ahead of visit

The UK is in "turmoil" and "it is up to the people" whether Theresa May stays as prime minister, Donald Trump has said ahead of his first visit to the country as US President.

Mr Trump told reporters before leaving Washington there were "a lot of things going on" in the UK at the moment.

He said he got on well with Mrs May and had "always liked" Boris Johnson, who quit as foreign secretary on Monday.

Mr Trump arrives on Thursday after attending the Nato summit.

The US President is set to arrive in the UK on the same day as the government publishes its White Paper setting out in more detail Mrs May's controversial offer to the EU on future relations after Brexit.

Both Mr Johnson and former Brexit Secretary David Davis, who has also quit, have expressed fears it will tie the UK too closely to the EU and make it harder to do trade deals with countries like the US.

The US president has previously expressed sympathy for Brexit and said he wanted to do a quick trade deal with the UK once it leaves the EU - which is due to take place on 29 March 2019.

Asked about his forthcoming visit, Mr Trump referred to the turbulence of the past 48 hours, which has prompted speculation about Theresa May's future as leader.

"It is going to be an interesting time in the UK and an interesting time at Nato," he told reporters on the lawn of the White House.

"We will work it out and all countries will be happy.

"So I have Nato, I have the UK - that's a situation with turmoil."

Mr Trump, who has called on other Nato members to pay more for their own defence, joked that his meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday "may be the easiest of all".

Two Tory vice-chairbeings quit over May's surrender plan. One of them's a Remoaner and even he can't stomach it.

Raab's Department for Brexit has been relegated to (not) handling our domestic (non) preparation.

Martin Howe QC cuts through the fudge in the Chequers statement and concludes: vassal relationship. It's entirely about how we will abase ourselves before the EU, without asking them for any consideration in return. Something I'd missed is that we'll still be shackled by EU diktats when trading with other countries, e.g. we won't be able to benefit from modern agriculture.

Our problem, in language even Val can understand.

If you hear the full exchange it paints a very different picture.
Trump was actually being pretty diplomatic - he was repeatedly questioned about the resignations in the British cabinet and Brexit and he replied with the "a lot of things going on", he was then asked specifically about Boris and he said he liked the guy, Boris was very supportive when he was elected and he might meet with him while he was over. He was then asked directly if May should go and he replied directly with "it is up to the people" to decide that.
While still being pushed to say something controversial he summed up with - I've got Nato, the UK, lot of turmoil in the UK right now, and Putin. On balance, Putin may be the easiest. Who'd of thought.

All of that with his helicopter in the background rotors turning, lot of noise, him about to get on it.

I guess they have to make news out of something.

Don't tell them, Pike!

If this preparation-for-preparation had begun before we triggered Article 50 and started, uh, negotiating with the EU, then fair enough.

But bluffing about bluffing now, after we've already handed the EU a blank cheque, the terms of our abject surrender, and asked them what else they'd like? Pffft. It's rather silly.

Of course we should do it. I suspect that Raab will even draw up plans to do so, and they'll be strong and stable plans. But I can't see them being translated into action, in case it antagonises the Franco-Prussians.

What do you think, "primarily focused on export from the UK", actually means?

Merkel says Germany is free to make independent decisions. Have they left the EU too then?

Oh, hang on a second; she must mean Greater Germany.

What do you think, "primarily focused on export from the UK", actually means?

It means that the goods manufacturer in this country are primarily for export.

It also doesn't answer the question of does the UK export more Philips goods than are imported to the UK.

So.

Does the UK export more Philips goods than are imported to the UK?

Are we, the UK, exporting more Philips branded goods than we import?

Our adrenal glands will be dry and shrivelled up by then from 4 years of constant shrieking that the wolf is very nearly here.

The best options are

1. Leave (Hard Brexit)
2. Remain
3. Vassal state (Soft Brexit)

2 at least leaves the possibility of hard Brexit via civil war.

So do 1. Then?

You know, actually leave the EU as asked, not pretend to?

Well the people in power want do 2, but most normal people want to 1. Doing 2 or 3 will probably end badly IMO.

It'd be nice to think so, says a lot of the right things, but whenever he's asked, he just won't commit. I fear his loyalty may well actually lie more with party than country when it comes to the crunch.

Maybe a repeat referendum isn't such a bad idea. I think a lot of people have just tired of the Reverser's project fear, people like Val helping to turn more people away from the EU - I mean, let's face it, if he's the kind of mentality behind it, who would want anything to do with them anymore? It may be that Brexit would get a more resounding vote this time.

And even if the Reversers won, we know that the country is split fairly evenly, so Brexit needn't lose hope for the future. After all, if you can have two referendums, presumably you can have as many as you want, as our Scottish friends are keen to demonstrate.

Or (and I won't be holding my breath on this one), perhaps this Brexit thing, and the general rise of protest-driven nationalism in Europe might cause the EU to truly reform into something more workable for everyone, so it'd be actually worth staying in.

Around 50% of the country will vehemently disagree with you after the results are in.

Another Leave result wouldn't change the fact that we have Remoaners providing a BRINO, and a Remoan result would be the last time we'd ever be asked.
