IMHO that looks like operator error. If the spindle insert rolled in the cup it's either now bent or it was never plugged in the hollow bolt properly in the first place.

If I hadn't put it together myself, I would agree. But, I can assure you it was 100% as it should be.

Ok, well if we look at it objectively the spigot seat into the spindle and the cup sits over the spigot. You lock the slider on the stand and wind the screw in until it's all tight. Now when you put it on the stand the spigot and cup are all in shear stress.

The fact that the spigot has rolled alone says that it couldn't have been fully home in the pivot spindle. How does a plug-in part roll over unless a) it bent b) it wasn't in the hole properly c) it was too small for the hole or d) the supporting side stay bent or the welds tore? The room for that part to roll over had to come from somewhere. The edge of the cup is torn right enough but that's not the cause of failure, it's incidental damage. There's no bending moment on the edge of the cup it's in shear.

Dear Roger,

Thanks for providing this link.

Not nice seeing someone pride and joy with damage like this L

The OP has sent us an email and we have replied to him with a detailed reply.

I won’t go into full detail with what we have explained to the OP, however we have asked him to return the part (along with the other end fittings) for close inspection.

As you have contacted us (possibly as an abba customer, or a possible future customer?) I feel I should explain briefly to you, at this stage that we feel the part in question has been neglected and used incorrectly (not once, but for many years!) Just by looking at the photo you can clearly see the internal circumference of the fitting is very badly damaged and is obvious it has been used over the top of a nut/bolt head, which is not what this part is designed for. This has caused many score marks (from the sharp, points of the nut) some of which you can easily see even from the photo that the inner edge is badly damaged, this will over time cause fatigue to any material and eventually as it sadly has in this instance cause a failure.

It is clear that someone has used the stand for many years without using the correct fitting kit for each bike. When used in the correct manner, the standard fitting (either side) should not show any deep score marks like this.

I should add that, It is often the case that the abba fitting is designed to fit over a nut/bolt head, but only when the correct "bike specific" adapter is used inside these standard fittings, which when required in most cases has a greater wall thickness.

It’s still very sad to see damaged to the OP’s bike L. We have offered him a complete Standard kit FREE of charge as a good will gesture, but unfortunately this will not help fix the damage to the bike.

Thanks for the offer for us to comment on the forum but we will pass on this, from experience of seeing other companies do this it often turns into a slagging match and is not helpful to anyone, although it is frustrating when we can’t defend ourselves and this can give the wrong impression to potential new customers.

If you need any more information please let me know, and thanks for taking the time to advise us of this forum chat.

Best regards

A reasonable reply. Of course the results of their investigation would be nice to see but I doubt that will come about.

Nice enough reply from them.

Whole lot posted back this afternoon, though their agument that it has been used over a nut is nul and void as it has only ever been used on the TL1000R using the kit they supplied with it new then once with the Hayabusa kit.
That cup has never been over a nut.

I will happily post the result which ever way it goes, as I said I am not gunning for any form of compo and I am happy to have had a swift response from them!

Fair enough, I guess more, how long have you owned the Busa? I only remember your TLR, but the insides of that initial photo have proper straight edges, so when they mentioned nut/bolt head or similar, I saw. Wondered if you bought the kit used or something.

Had the busa since August, the cup is the one supplied when I bought the stand with the TL fitting kit.

Looking at that I would wonder if it happened as the bike fell but I'm sure we will never know unless Abba say it was metal failure.

You might as well contact them as you have nothing to lose. At the least I would expect you to get a free set of bobbins out of them.

The cup didnt come off, the spigot that sits inside it cracked the cup then seemed to be turned 90 degrees inside the cup.
I can 100% say everything was fitted perfectly, I'd had the TL up on the stand moments before and had no problem.
The only difference was the fitting kit.
I've mesaged ABBA, I'm not gunning for compensation just wonder what their thoughts are on it.

It's refreshing that op isn't all about the money, money, money.
If it went to court it would be winner takes it all.
