PostPosted: 16:35 - 17 Jul 2018    Post subject: Registering Historic on V62 Reply with quote

The 1976 GT250 that came into my possession recently had no V5. I'm applying using the V62 form and I have put down vehicle class as 'Motorcycle' but it's been suggested that 'Historic' is needed to qualify for no tax etc.. (not posted yet) .

Anyone any experience with this conundrum?

If you put it down as motorcycle when the V5 comes back, you'll need to go to the post office to tax it, they will take the V5 off you and you'll get one back saying historic a couple of weeks later.
You will also need to fill out the MOT exempt form V112?

Everyone who has a bike that is now suddenly tax/mot free will have to go through the same routine, you cant tax it for free online if your V5 says motorcycle.

I have a reg number but no V5.

Scott - I looked through one of the summary of vehicle class forms and it looks like you're on the money. I'm going to try and enter it as Historic in the first instance and see what they come back with..

Cheers

/\ Caps lock fubar /\

🤣

To the OP,

I registered 2 auld bikes as classic.

I had to get proof of OEM detail from a BSA owners club as part of the registration detail.
It would mayby help if you look for a Suzuki owners club UK for help with your plans.

I was in the same boat a few months ago, thanks to a very helpful person on here (sorry cant remember his name) he did me a check from my frame number and I ended up with a reg number, i applied for the V5 it came back saying motorcycle even though i had written historic on the form, i tried to tax it online but was refused, tried the post office and they sorted it, they sent my V5 back and a few weeks later i got a new one saying historic and that was on a 1931 bike which should have been classed as historic before the 40yr rule came in.

Hi All

After some delays I got the V5 back but in spite of applying for class Historic on V62 it came back as Bicycle - the f*ckers.

So I went to the Post Office this morning to try and get the class changed (as it says on teh V5) and they said I need an MOT or some some 'letter of exemption'. TBH I think the counter staff was out of their depth with this one..

Any suggestions for next move.

Cheers

Correction.
I have a couple of vehicles registered.

Tax classes:

car is Diesel Car.

S1000RR is Bicycle.

BSA is Historic Vehicle.

I was not paying attention. Embarassed
