|
|
Morning all!
Tried to start the bike this morning and it wouldn't catch.
Bike would turn over, but that's it. Bike is a Yamaha TDM 900 '08.
I noticed that the LED screen would dim/go blank when hitting the starter and the FI pump didn't whirr into life when turning the ignition on.
This all suggest flat betters so tried to jump it from the car... Still no joy.
With/without jump leads attached the voltage across the battery terminals was 12.3v. Surely enough to get the bike going!
With the jump leads attached and the car running, still only 12.3v.
Is it possible the battery isn't taking a charge?
The last time this happened I managed to bump the bike and when the engine running at 4,000 rpm the reading across the batter was 14.4v so I don't think it's a reg/rec issue (unless it's intermittent).
So, first step, charge the battery & check all fuses.
Second step, replace battery.
What else should I be checking before passing it back to the dealer? ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls

Well bollocks!
The battery was fully charged last night. Dropped in to the bike this morning hoping all would be well. It was not.
Battery holding about 13v.
From a very brief look and listen.
Turn on ignition
Relay for fuel circuit clicks
Fuel pump doesn't run (high pitch whine for a few seconds normally)
Hit starter button
Starter relay clicks
Bike cranks but doesn't start (obviously)
The fuse for the fulfilling system is OK as again, the relay clicks on/off when insert/remove the fuse.
When I'm home this evening I'll pop the faring off to take a look at the relay and wiring. Make sure there's not damage there. If not, it's back to the dealer. Only PITA is it's 75 miles away via the god awful M25 and M3!

Well it's back up and running.
Took all the panels off and began checking every connector I could see. Had my hand under the tank when I suddenly heard the FI pump whirr into life.
A bit more faffing found what I assume is the FI system relay. Loads of wires going into it (definitely not the ECU). Disconnected, given a bit of a clean and re-seated.
Voila!
Not just to address all the other niggles!!
Thanks all. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

inb4 stranded.
Glad you found it, but I'd be a bit cautious with no long distances in the near future. |
