Hi,

A few months back i bought a Suzuki GS500 for commuting.

Bike runs great except that when i get off it, even after just 20 miles, i find my hand wiggles (a bit like when you've been using a garden strimmer for a long time) and sometime i gets pins and needles, but only on the left hand.

The bike has been dropped by the previously owner and now sports some "renthal" after market bars so i'm guessing part of my problem is the lack of bar end weights due to having these??

Can you get bar end weights for rentals and is there anything to be aware of when buying them - i'm guessing they will be a specific internal diameter?

Although that may not solve the problem... They are nevertheless available and your bars are likely to be 7/8ths bars I reckon.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I've shoved a variety of things into a variety of bars without problems. Well, maybe a touch of filing, or a wrap of tape, but nothing's fallen out.

Something you might consider is spooging some cheap silicon sealant or just Poundshop generic caulk or filler into the bars to absorb vibrations. Not something that I've had to try, but I can see the point of it.

Check that all is well with the bike. Vibration white finger, for which there is no cure, is not good. "Edit: it's all about preventing, stopping, altering or avoiding vibration".

So. Bike itself check: steering head bearings, engine mounts, all bearings on crank OK, chain alignment/wear. Handlebar angle adjustment to make comfortable (also affects vibration), including grips/levers, handlebars should not be not too wide, levers not too far to stretch your fingers to.

You: Gloves OK not too tight, gel gloves should be good, keep your hands warm!, riding position not throwing too much weight onto hands, soft grips possible?, bar end weights will change the resonant frequenc(y|ies) (at which vibration is a relative maximum), wrists straightish not very bent when riding?

Your size and build including arm lengths etc. (ooh-er!) will affect things significantly (riding position). There won't be one "bar end weight" suitable for everyone. Do something about it, though, because as said there is no cure for vibration white finger, and, as I find out from time to time myself, usually in the winter-time, it's not very good.

I wondered about casting some cork-shaped lead weights, drilling through axially and putting through a bolt to tighten and deform the plug onto the inside of the handlebars. Lead is itself an excellent vibration damper sa well as having high density, which is important. Haven't done it yet though.

I've seen people fitt their bars with sand too, anything that'll alter the resonant frequency.

Nice heavy billet bar end mirrors here. No probs with vibes at all. They weigh more than the weights they replaced.

60g for 15 quid? Have a kilo of shot for a tenner.
