Has anyone tried the £2.49 tape from Screwfix: https://bit.ly/2LdIBED or £4.98 tape from Toolstation: https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p55262 ?

This for wiring loom repair (instruments/front lights back to under the tank). Also interested in observations re oil resistance if you have tried either.

Self amalgamating is superb stuff. Every toolkit should have at least one roll of it.

I've used it for electrical repairs, sealing HT lead ends into plug caps, loom wrap, insulating screwdrivers, making soft handles for tools...

You get the idea. It's as cheap as chips and versatile. Buy some. Thumbs Up

Brilliant stuff. Rarely use electrical tape anymore.

I am going to get some more, another possibility is the Eurocarparts one which is £4.39 including their online discount. These are cheaper than the £30-odd stuff, but are they any good?

Note, I've just seen Eurocarparts "DEI Quick Fix Silicone Tape Black" is available at £9.67 (but only 3m), which is tepered-edge and does look "proper".

It's good stuff generally, as in very useful, but adhesive heat shrink is nicer on electrics.

Agreed but where it's not possible to use it, self amalgamating is the way to go. Smile

Nooo... horrible stuff ... keep it out of your toolbox!

Not sure where my roll has gone, but pretty sure it ingested a good number of tools and bits before I removed it from a box of useful things!

I reckon that it's great stuff. My only beef with it is that I could do with a few extra hands when applying it.

Self-amalgamating tape is great, and cheap but for sheer performance try silicone tape.

Oh sure; if you want to create 'modern art' when 20 of your tools are stuck together in a big lump around - it's definitely great stuff!

Yes, works great. You can get both spray and paint on. It's good for fixing breaks in insulation, sealing up connectors that dont get disconnected much and protecting exposed crimp terminals that would otherwise get wet and rot.

Self amalgamating is good but wo t last on a bike, oil or prolonged medium temperatures will make it rot/split. I prefer this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222609657891 Have not tried sillicone tape but that would have the temperature and oil resistance needed for bike stuff..

First used self amalgamating tape 45 years ago.

We were told 50% stretch and 50% overlap.

Wonderful stuff would not want to be without it.

I ordered a couple of rolls for about sick squid. Sounds like silicone: "heat-resistant temperature range from - 50 ~ 260 degrees, emergency temperature 300 degrees. Heat stability 200 degrees, long-term application at this temperature, the application of product safety for more than 10 years has excellent anti-aging properties. Anti-stain, hydrochloric acid, UV, anti ozone, cold, heat, high pressure and so on". Will report back.
