So - not actually bike. however, someone on here may know where to look.. I've tried Google is my friend - not so yet. The operating cable on my Box flip front helmet has broken on one side, and the remaining length is about to 'let go'. Fortunately this happened while I was cleaning the visor - God knows what I would have done had it broken with the helmet on. The button on the front activates the locking clips via a one-piece cable, with a nipple in the centre and one on either end. Simples. If necessary I will make one from a length of bicycle gear change cable and nipples if the bike shop has them, or make them. But it would have been nice if I could just buy one and fit it.

PS there is a local fishing tackle shop to which I may pay a vist - perhaps he can make me up the necessary short cable with nipples. Worth a try.

Try getting in touch with Oxford Products. Box is one of their brands.

Halfords Bike (bicycles) shop and look at their brake/gear cables and fittings.

Or your local bicycle shop that will probably be cheaper.

Thanks guys for the quick response. I knew the helmet was an Oxford one, but thought that the Box was no longer being produced, but I'll see what they can do. I'll supply updates!!

Oxford products don't have any spares for the Box SZ-1. So as I am not really happy to make up a new cable with stranded material (the tight radius which the cable has to pass over has, IMHO, brought about its demise) I am using some non-stretch fishing line from Top Tackle and beading crimps from Hobbycraft. Tonight should see my helmet back together for a blast down to my local Monday evening bike meet.

Thanks again all for the input.

I had an email back from Oxford Products, advising me not to repair the helmet. Well, IMHO, if the material for the cable had been more suitable to pass over such a tight radius in the first place, it woud probably last the life of the helmet. Even though it is the most comfortable helmet I have owned, I am not impressed with the design of a stranded cable going over such a tight radius. So I will be repairing the helmet thanks.

Oxford Products said in their mail that they advised against trying to repair the helmet as I would be 'modifying' it. Advised me to purchase a new helmet (good marketing, eh?) Well, I have not modified it, just fitted a new cable. It works a treat.
