Disclaimer I know nothing about car stereos

Bought an old (2000 W plate) Clio MK2 to use this winter.

Wanted stereo with bluetooth and USB.

Went for cheapest option ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Radio-Bluetooth-Stereo-Head-Unit-Player-MP3-USB-SD-AUX-IN-FM-In-dash-IPod-UK/232787534609?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 ).

Pulled old head unit out of clio to find it has 3 sets of wiring and a different radio aerial socket.

I've figured out I need this for the radio aerial https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-27-Renault-Clio-Stereo-ISO-to-DIN-Replacement-Aerial-Adaptor/280758995759?hash=item415e8a4b2f:g:-mYAAOSwI~taX0xY

I'm fucked if I can figure out what I need for the wiring though. I'm not arsed about losing the steering wheel controls. All the adaptor cables I find online seem to have a connector that looks different to the one on the cheapo head unit.

I'd rather find an adaptor cable than be chopping up the loom. Help please.

I'm sure I bought the same stereo when it was £17.... I had to buy 2 different leads to connect it up to my ford.... and that was losing the wheel controls.

Not sure which adapters you need, but have a quick look on ebay.

There's a small chance I have the wiring loom you need in my loft still.

Hang fire and I'll pop up in the next hour and see.

Thanks, not so bothered about the wheel controls though. Being a French design they are badly placed and harder to use than buttons on a stereo.

All the ones I can find on eBay are like the one in your link. The connector is slightly different. My Chinese one looks like a big 12 pin molex style thing. I think I could use one of those but I'd have to hack off the plug and splice mine in.

I hacked one of those cheap stereos for a local clubs carnival float project and reckon they dont have steering wheel control functions.
Only 12 pins:
8 for speakers F&R
2 for power/memory in
1 for ground
1 for antenna

I reckon you'll either have to cut and splice your existing cables
or if the Clio doesn't have ISO connectors ( it should)
use the patch leads indicated to convert ( cut splice solder sleeve etc)
both the car and stereo so you can use any modern stereo if you dont like this one
I had to do this on one of my old shitboxes.

I had consigned myself to cutting and splicing but finally found this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chinese-Car-Radio-Stereo-12-Pin-Molex-Iso-Connector-White-Clear-Wiring-Harness/142260211106?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

May need to move the pins around but that beats farting about with a soldering iron and a load of heatshrink

Not sure if you've ever used the stereo before, but the design is very similar to the one I got, and it's probably stuff you know already anyway, but....

The bluetooth is only for making and receiving calls (great the first couple of times, but mine refused to connect properly after that).

The USB is brilliant up to 64gb (didn't have anything bigger to test).... but I found a £3 (tesco) 16gb usb stick was more than enough.

The SD card... don't even bother putting a card in there... I tried a 2, 4,16 and 64gb cards, and all of them couldn't even finish a single song without jumping all over the place.

I never tuned a single station in in the time it was fitted.

And I've only just remembered that I removed the stereo from my old banger.... but forgot to removed the extra leads before scrapping it Evil or Very Mad

From your list some differences. Can play music via Bluetooth (the mic on it is crap for calls though). The SD card seems to work well. Not tried a USB memory stick yet, I will probably only use the USB to charge the phone.

The cable I ordered works, I had to pop the pins out and reorder them to match my stereo but that was a 2 minute job. If I wasn't so lazy I could have just used the lead it came with, bought the 2 necessary plugs and wired them in to it myself to save money.

So far so good. Expect the "Chinese stereo caused my shitbox to catch fire" thread in the coming months.
