My honda shadow 125 (24,600 miles) runs fine until I go on rides like 30mins plus, it'll start sputtering and popping a bit and then if im not revving the bike it'll cut out, so if I pull in the clutch and try and slow down to turn at a junction it'll cut out

fyi- it has issues starting on the button I think I have that narrowed down to the starter relay so I've ordered a new one (small details may help you help me diagnose the issue)\

I got it home (just) and pulled a plug, it was dry and black on the hooked part and on the thread but inside, underneath the hooked part it was light brown. I reinstalled the plug and tried to push start and it wouldn't.

I sprayed some easystart into the air filter and it wouldn't start, I was going to check whether the plugs would spark outside the motor but couldn't do that and push start it at the same time

left it on charge and it push started fine the next day.

I thought it may be the battery because the Haynes manual said it could be the battery if its running poorly at slow speeds, so I put a volt meter over it and it looked like it was dropping 0.01 volts every 3 seconds about, so I took it down to halfords for them to check and they said it was fine so I reinstalled it.

I've been through the manual and I thought it may be overheating, but the coolant level looks OK, (a bit on the low end according to the manual but within spec) but I'll top that up just in case

please if anyone has any ideas put them down there and I'll try every one.

edit: I also checked the fuses and they're all fine.

thanks, Art

Try a new spark plug, then suspect the ignition coil.
They commonly fail in curious ways, with confusing periods of normality especially when cold.

Something else ties in with running for a while then stopping is vacuum in the fuel tank caused by blocked breather.
If you open the cap in a quiet spot you might hear air rush in which is not normal.

Can you describe what happened to your shadow?

There are 2 coils, one per cyclinder so if one was faulty wouldn’t we see it run on one cylinder? Same with the plugs

Could be the fuel tank I can’t find the breather though
