Much more in the way of tuning bits for R1s as well, bodywork, etc. Thunderace is an underrated bike but because R1 came out, seems to have been relegated to 'fast tourer' though in reality only 6hp difference between the two when R1 came out, slightly more torque, main thing that made the original R1 so 'mad' was the lower weight - about 20kg or so made power/weight even better than the 'ace, which had kicked the same year ('96) 'Blades ass and R1 set a new benchmark for litre bikes.

Same brakes, insurance much cheaper on the Thunderace, same potential problem with early R1s in that exup valve needs checking out before you buy - might have rusted through the bracket, seized or be an absolute bitch to un-rust and lube, fairing screws on belly pan won't be easy to shift either. Shouldn't burn oil though as far as I know - some 'aces have a tendency to want a drink every 1000 miles or so - I think mine does.

Any R1 owners on here wanna shed light on ownership? My mate just sold his Gixxer 600 (k5) and is already talking about an R1 or Gixxer Thou next year (used) so it's easy enough to let him ride my 'ace and give him some idea of what power is like.

Having a problem with my Thunderace. Press the starter button get absolutely nothing, not even a click. After bumping the bike running for a while, stop and press starter fires straight up. If I then leave the bike for an hour or so, same press starter button and not even a click. Battery I fine and fully charged, lights horn etc working fine. Any thoughts.
