A mate picked this up for the buttons you would expect. Previous owner said it wouldn't run right, still my mate bought it.
Replaced the rotten exhaust, £65, at least they are cheap to repair.
PO had replaced the auto choke, should have given me a clue. I checked all the pipe work, all in the right place. (Lots of little vacuum pipes going hither and thither). Fired right up, seemed fine, until it came off the auto choke. Smokey as hell, rich black petrol smoke when revved.
Long story short, these things use a vacuum operated fuel pump to lift the fuel from the underslung tank. Once all the other obvious causes were eliminated, flooding float, fuel mixture screw etc, I looked at the vacuum line from carb inlet to fuel pump. Nicely wet with fuel, the diaphragm must have a pin hole or two in it letting neat fuel be dragged straight into the inlet. For £16 a cheap and easy fix. ____________________ The CBR900RR has been sold. Aprilia Falco worms its way into my heart.

yep they're easy to sort out
I tarted one up for one of my lads, I had to sort the cold start and pump too amongst other things
