Reliable, fast, comfy.

Can;t think of a word for handles well - obedient? Accurate? Smooth? Agile? Nimble?

Light, accurate, powerful.

Keeping it to three is quite bloody hard.

I love being able to get on a bike anywhere, any time and not have to give a single fleeting thought to if it's going to start and/or get me where I'm going.

If riding for fun, the motorcycle must be interesting enough for me to enjoy riding it, while still being reasonable (spare parts prices and availability). It also must be capable of at least 60 mph, otherwise I find it dangerous to be ridden outside of the city limits.

With cars it's the same thing for me. I don't really need a motorised vehicle.

EDIT: When I say I don't need a motorised vehicle, I meant it in a way, that I commute by the public transport, which costs me next to nothing and takes about the same time driving a car (riding a motorcycle) would + there is a tram going in my direction every 10 minutes.

What I find interesting is mostly vintage/old machines, or just being otherwise unusual. If I ever happen to be in a need of a commuter, I'll probably opt for something ubiquitous, only to be reasonable.

Reliable, tidy rear end, not too heavy up front, performs well when ridden hard and screams when I twist....sorry, what was the question? Laughing

If it's going to need fettling every 5 minutes, wants a service every couple of weeks and/or is generally difficult to work on, I'm out.

If the riding position leaves me aching after anything less than an hour, no thanks.

I don't like major vibes, or handling that makes me nervous, or causes me to concentrate so hard, it tires me.

So in three words - ease of use

Bit of an experiment and fact finding for something I am doing in my spare time but in three words what do you look for in a bike to be used on public roads?

In this order;

1) Something slightly out of the ordinary, slightly exotic or with some 'character'. Looking back proudly / longingly / admiringly at the bike after parking up is a thing: And if I'm not doing it, it's time to change bikes.

2) It has to be reasonably comfy and practical, because i like to actually use my bikes to go places, sometimes far away places.

3) I like it to be reasonably fast. Not that I push the performance limits of my bikes by any means, but every now and then I want to release the kid inside me and take a stretch of road as fast as I can. Also there are some practical benefits to decent capacity engine when travelling longer distances, see item 2 above.
