Hey all,

I have noticed a couple of times lately while stopped in traffic a burning plastic smell that seems to be coming from my bike, its an FZ6n s2.

This is not the first time in the last few weeks that I have noticed it, but then it was a bit of plastic stuck to my exhaust. I got that off an gave it a good clean but the smell seems to have returned. I have double checked the exhaust but can't see any remnants of plastic left.

I would write it off as me missing something but last year I had a problem where the reg/rec cooked itself and I ended up with the bike off the road for a couple of weeks and a hefty bill from the recovery and garage for investigative work and the eventual fix. Since then I swapped the battery for a motobatt as someone mentioned it could be a fooked battery that caused the problem.

Are there any tips for things I should be checking before I have a flaming ball of fire between my legs while shooting down the motorway?

Have you been out in the rain?

When my engine gets covered in wet road muck, it makes a hell of a stink as it burns off.

Smells like a delicious mixture of burning rubber and horseshit. Very Happy

Well it was a bit wet this morning for the first time in a couple of weeks, I have had the bike for 4 years nearly now and its not something I normally notice though.

My first thought was reg/rec and then you mentioned it, so yeah, check it and its connector block.

Yeah, check your stator output wires (usually three, yellow) and if they're on a push connector. Could be crispy.
