Hi, I have a gs550 with the Vin# gs550-115938. How do I determine the specific year?

Thank you for any info you can provide!

Thank you so much! I've looked at the document at the link you provided, but couldn't come up with that myself. How were you able to determine the year and model from that document?

Thanks again

EN model going by the stuff ScottT posted. Most 78 models came with wire spoked wheels, only 78 gs550e had alloy spokes.
Cross reference your engine number with the chart to confirm the model number.

It cannot be a 79 N model as the serial number you have is earlier.

Thanks so much mentalboy! It does have wire spoked wheels. I believe the engine serial appears to be GS550-101371

Ah. Considering 79 model engines start at 139272 and wire wheels were phased out in 78, you either have a bits and pieces machine there (closest engine number would be for a 77 gs550b) or possibly a 77 model with a replacement frame.
40 years of opportunity to be tinkered with might make it tricky finding out what exactly you've got there.
Nice machines, pics might throw some light.

Nothing wrong with a Frankenbike I have several. They're also now known these days as 'survivors' and are great for pissing-off the concours 'must have matching numbers' brigade..

Thank You A100man! I agree. I like pissing people of...In a non violent way...I'd rather have a survivor that runs, than a matching bike that does not!

Looks proper - but you do need some mudguards!
