PS4 HDR with PSVR woes

Bit of a Geek post, but i'm really quite annoyed at Sony.

I've just purchased a new 4K HDR TV.

So I tried linking it to the PS4.

The TV is a bit crxp (Even though Samsung U7000) in that you can only have HDR on 1 HDMI.

So I plugs in my PS4 and it says the TV doesn't have HDR

Hmm, so I then began to think about HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 cables.

Queue about 2 hours later. Evil or Very Mad

The PSVR doesn't allow HDR pass through at all. WTF

You have to unplug the HDMI cable from the playstation and the one from the back of the TV and connect a straight through cable.

So every time I want to use the PSVR i'm going to have to unplug wires.

(With the PSVR a HDMI goes from the PS4 to it, then another cable goes from the PSVR to the TV).

Who thought this was a good idea?

Tbh i've only got 2 HDR games, Uncharted 4 & Legacy, the difference is vast,sooooooo much more colourful. The difference is vast.

Sort of happy about the HDR, but totally psssd off, i've ended up purchasing 2 HDMI male to female cables, as to not wear out the TV or PS4.

I don't even have the option of connecting the PSVRs HDMI, to a 2nd HDMI port on the TV as i've none spare. Rolling Eyes

This has also thrown a massive spanner in the works as I was thinking of going Pro. Sick

This fucked me off a great deal too. The only fix is buying the PSVR V2.

You'd think you could just replace the psvr box not have to buy a new unit.

Can't justify a new PSVR.

I'm standing well away from HDR until the format wars are standardised. It's going to be another VHS vs Betamax, or BluRay vs HDDVD.

At the moment there are two competing HDR standards, and they are not cross compatible. Unlike the Betamax or BluRay wars, neither of the standards were invented by Sony, which I suspect chaps their arse a bit. (I think one is Samsung, and the other is a conglomerate including LG and a couple of other Japanese manufacturers, but that's off the top of my head so I might be wrong).

Early adopters beware, I guess.

I bought a 4K HDR projector about a year ago because it looks fucking incredible. Actively looking for HDR content to watch on it and be visually stunned.

That said, there's a lot of fuckery out there and it's confusing. It seemed to take years just for 4K content to appear. I remember thinking, "4K Tvs / monitors are here now, where the fuck is the content?"

Now a lot of bluray releases have the 4K and 4K HDR which is sweet.

Does the Xbox One X have this issue? Going to be grabbing a console for Red Dead 2 so want to make sure it will output in full 4K / HDR / 60fps for the projector.

Equally an issue for me, I run a 1080 ti on the PC and it only has one HDMI port, with 3 more display ports. Annoying to run adaptors n shit to the HTC Vive Pro when I want to use VR. As I have 2 monitors too, as well as a projector... fucking annoying changing one cable all the time but 1st world problems eh!
