If you were to do a search on Paul Manafort, you would find that the judge at his trial has received threats, the jury has received threats. For this reason the judge has decided not to release the names of the jurors, (standard practice in the US), as there are fears for their safety!
You would also find that Trump has made statements, during Manafort's trial, (not standard practice in the US), attesting to his character.

If you were to search for Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's choice of Judge, you will find that attempts are being made to cover up his past.
Only a third of his public record documents have been released, (not standard practice in the US).

The parallels with totalitarian regimes are uncanny!

Coming from a country that does criminalize a great deal of speech on moral grounds of moral panic?

Which until recently worked under a system that has unelected mandarins veto democratically elected officials without recourse?

Why is it more to cry about when someone you don't like does it but you ignore it when people you like do worse?

I mean the one who is rude has to be worse than the ones who use the soothing platitudes right?

If you were to do a search...

And that is the problem with all this hysteria that those against Trump and Brexit are trying to create. If I do a search. If things were that bad, I wouldn't have to do a search. It'd all be right in our faces every day, in our everyday lives.

There has always been a problem with the violent side of the far right. Sometimes it grows a bit, and sometimes it shrinks away again. But what real support do they have? It has been said that recently their ideas have been creeping into the mainstream. Well, I think those ideas have always been there too. The thing about our modern "democracies" is that they tend to balance out. Or they used to anyway. I still believe that most people don't want violence in their politics here in the west, so I'm not really afraid of those elements that do. They will lose.

But you cannot just steamroller over people's views because you don't like them. You have to address the issues that cause those views to arise, and I mean actively promote policies that will bring people back to their sense of self-worth in society. It seems to me that the current trend for simply attacking those views illustrates that our Lords and Masters are so incompetent that they just don't know how to address those issues in a reasonable and practical way. So they stir up these feelings of fear and hatred on their own part. How is that any better than what those they decry do? How is that going to help matters?

And yet Trump declares the press as the "enemy of the people"

How is that any better than those they decry him?

Like I said, Trump is a fool in many ways. His rhetoric seems to be extreme(ish), but anyone can see that this is just his way of speaking. Yes, it could be dangerous because some people will take him literally, but anyone with any sense at all can see what his message really is.

Did you see the series with Ed Balls on the telly recently, where he went to the "heart of Trumpland" to gauge what was actually happening? Did you see anyone on there who wanted a violent uprising? They all seemed like fairly ordinary, working-class people to me, who gave Trump a try because they'd come to the conclusion he couldn't be any worse than the usual establishment. Turns out that for them, they have so far been proved right too.

Instead of knocking Trump, give us a better alternative Wink

Also, as the press seem to want to promote this hysteria too, they are an enemy of the people in a certain way. They are helping to sow this discord, where they should be trying to calm it.

What, precisely, is his message?

How about someone who is not trying to close down debate, someone who is not trying manipulate the security services for his own, personal ends, someone who doesn't descend to petty name calling, someone statesman like, someone who puts serving his country ahead of their own ego, would be a start!

That the average American worker has been ignored for too long, that America has put ungrateful, parasitic nations before its own interests for too long, that there is another way that can work for more people.

Not willing to search that side of things, eh? Wink

Isn't it one of the things you're scared of, that you think Trump will promote against his "enemies"? If not, you perhaps need to alter your own tone.

More of them are in jobs, their pay and bonuses have increased (some have been given bonuses for the first time in their lives), and the same for their families and friends - their conditions are improving - after just one year. Do you expect these people, who formed the majority of voters, to look at things any other way?

And where is this wonderful character you speak of? Wink

And that's the last time I'm gonna address such a reply point by point. I ain't Rogerborg! Laughing

mpd is right. It's not proportional. It is exclusive in the opposite direction to how it was. It goes too far, is unreasonable. And I AM NOT RACIST! Rolling Eyes

I'm sorry, but as an amateur historian, I also object to the fiddling of characters in so-called historical drama in the same way. If you made one about, for e.g., Nelson Mandela, you wouldn't have him played by a white guy, would you?! It is misrepresentation, and it is important.

The orange genius now cancelling the pay rise he promised for federal employees, postmen local government etc.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, Trump's tax cuts, for his mates in the billionaires club, are going to add $1.4667 trillion to the US national debt over the next ten years.
Inflation in the US is currently at 2.6%.

Fukin' peachy!

I'm in it just for that. There's nothing like bucking a trend.

Hey, young folks are trying to fuck up my world. What's wrong with a little retaliation? Payment in kind Razz

Dry your eyes mate, you'll need those tears soon, it's only going to get worse, now Cohen's coughed!

Remember, "Only the best people"!

Go on, tell us, how many of the "best people" have been convicted. (Not going to happen).

Or will you be maintaining your current stance of fingers in ears while going la, la, la? (Seems likely).

Or maybe you're going to point out another squirrel you've just spotted? (Even more likely).

You could tell us about the job losses at GM, or the record number of farmers filing for bankruptcy. (That's never going to happen).

I think he's trying to take Roger's crown of top posters. 95% of his posts are him in this forum complaining and name calling. Snowflake this, commie that, I'd block him, but I do enjoy hearing his rants as it makes my life appear so stress free.
