|
|
Picked up this beauty last week.
https://www.planetash.net/bcf/street%20triple.jpg
Only 2 previous owners. First a 77 year old guy who racked up the first few thousand miles, and then a middle aged bloke who i bought it from for the rest. So it's never been ragged like a lot of used Triples. The guy was an engineer too, so everything's been properly looked after.
Just over 16k miles. Full service history for the first 13k, all done by Triumph (Pidcock's). Chassis and bodywork are spotless, in fact the only corrosion on it is on the rear shock. Rides beautifully, so silky smooth, and sounds just...just fantastic. Inline 4's used to be my favourite config, but not any more!
Mods planned, but none urgent:
Either SP Engineering or Delkevic cans
Custom paint job with a black base (Actually, forget that...i've come to love the green)
PSR GP levers (if i can find some in the UK)
Fit my Denali Soundbomb (when i find somewhere to put it)
Renthals (maybe, we'll see)
Upgrade rear shock/front springs
Scottoiler
PR4's front and back (fuck the Dunlops off)
Rode it back from it's previous home in Long Eaton on Wednesday, using A roads rather than a boring motorway for it's...or rather my maiden voyage, and experienced a bit of an odd coincidence. Pulled off the A5 on a random roundabout just to take some more pics, parked up just down the round outside this big building, and it was only when i went to take a pic that i realised i'd parked right outside of Triumph HQ Didn't even know it was there. Maybe the bike did....maybe it comes with a soul as standard...
https://www.planetash.net/bcf/stattriumph.jpg
Only a few minor niggles; turning circle not great, no fuel gauge, very sensitive throttle at low speeds. Getting used to the throttle now though, and i can live with the wide turning circle and lack of gauge, so no biggies really.
After a couple of days of ownership i am entirely smitten. I fucking love it. I always took the reviews of Triples being 'phenomenal' and 'an incredible bike' etc etc as hyperbole, but..they are. In the future i plan to get either an R, or maybe a speed triple, as well, but whatever happens, i don't think i'll be selling this...ever.

Very nice. I kinda like the green too. Striking.
Yeah, the turning circle is a bit pants, but I found them light enough to manoeuvre that it wasn't a problem.
Enjoy.
That top photo is good too. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Nice proper acid green Triumph colour too!
If a Hinckley bike isn't, shocking metallic green, pink, orange or yellow it's not worth having, unless it's an all black no chrome mk1 Speed triple.
Mk1 Street looks so much better with the under seat exhausts and makes the new ones look really deformed too, like every bike does that originally had high level pipes! |

Very nice, they are hellish machines but I would never own another after the stator fried and it proved to be an absolute chore to home service (maybe a speed four though).
Budget for a replacement stator if you haven't already read about it, Westcountry windings will rewind the original with thicker copper wire that won't burn out for about £120, or just ride it till it goes and hope your not far from home. ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 Some Bike Pics...

Thanks, it took a couple of days until i was totally sold on it. Normally prefer black everything everywhere!
Quote: | Look up the 1050 throttle mod, simple and well worth it. |
I did look into that, but from what i've read i think it'd actually exacerbate the issue of the on/off throttle. Getting more used to it now, but still catches me out now and again. There's literally hardly any movement in the throttle between idle and 3000 revs.

Very true, compared to manoeuvring the Bandit or FZ6, it's like wheeling a pushbike around
Oh, i will. And am!
Quote: | That top photo is good too. |
It was only the third pic i took, got a bit lucky with it!
Yeah, definitely needs something more subtle than the stock. I might have a go at making one out of ally myself.
Quote: | Also, PR3s are made for this bike. |
Was going to go for 3s, but for some reason ridiculously hard to find some that are both in stock and at a good price. As the price difference between 3s and 5s was only around £50, i went for the 5s in the end.
Quote: | The bit you wrote about not selling? Laughing |
Well, err, yeah...ok, i might one day i guess, but i've sold bikes in the past that later i really wish i'd kept, we'll see

Oh yes. The sound when opening up will get me into trouble...so addictive!

Couldn't agree more! Except about the pink.

I prefer the MK1 looks, and when out test riding a newer Triple recently, the sales guy said a surprising amount of people have swapped from their MK2s back to Mk1s.

I'll bear that in mind, cheers for the tip! Luckily i got free RAC cover with the new Bennetts insurance package this year, so if it does go at least i won't be stuck wherever i am at the time.

Haha, the guy's wife when i said i was going to respray it was one of horror, which, now that i love it, is now my reaction too ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

Interesting, maybe it is worth a punt then. Wemoto do them for about £12, so even if it's not better i wouldn't have lost much. ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |
