Having just acquired a couple of broken motorbikes, as you do, and having a late night up, as you also do, and having a tin or two of beer, which happens, and an increased curiosity born of idleness, I see the items pictured.

Now.

Which one costs about £180 plus shipping, and which one costs about £30 including shipping (both new)?

Apologies, you're far too quick off the mark! I have edited the image.

But really, one's six times the cost of t'other? Wow. Assuming they are in fact the same thing, of course.

I hope you have had spome nice beer too, if you're that way inclined.

The £180 will probably come with understandable fitting instructions, probably a bike specific loom / connectors. The cheapo one will come with zero / Chinglish instructions and a generic connector. If you are patient, have the ability to read a wiring diagram and lots of hair to pull out, the cheap ones work just as well as the fancy pants ones. Depends on how much you value your time / confidence in hooking it all up.

It's the same part. That's what surprised me. Fit it and off you go. The only difference is the logo on the face.

Yeah, the Chinese ones are just poorly documented IME. Otherwise, they're largely identical. I tihnk the only thing that's a bit off on my Chinese dash is that the oil indicator has a fuel pump logo on it instead. Otherwise, it's pretty much a Koso without the price tag.

Well, one of them looks like it came out of a christmas cracker. Not the same at all.

They might function the same too until it rains once. Neither of them are any good, they're both Koso RX1N ripoffs, its just the reiju one is slightly closer.

SS2 or SC1? I can't tell which you mean from the pictures and your description.

I would guess that Rieju paid the tooling and development costs and also applied some quality control. Thereafter the speedometer manufacturer just knocks out lots more unbranded ones and so can sell them cheap. They probably sell the ones Rieju QC would reject too, which is why Chinese goods can be a bit hit and miss. Still, if you want cheap you got it.

Could be the photo, I'm not sure. Mattsprattuk is mistaken, though, one is a Koso instrument. I might be forced to buy one...

Rolling Eyes

Link to the eBay pages?

These threads work a lot better when you give us the link to eBay or wherever it is you found them rather than wanting us to play obscure guessing games.

They're very similar to this one but the photos don't match. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272924494890

So go on, post the links and then you can enjoy getting some helpful answers.

Oh! "Us". OK. "Wanting you to play obscure guessing games"? No, only a startled observation after a beer (OP) and a couple of photos with a question.... Still, if you want the links, that's fine! No-one's asked so far...

Anyway, no offence intended; I'm hoping for communication from an inscrutable gentleman; and here are some links:

Dem fings is mug shite.
£30 is all they're worth, they're just shiny distracting toys
for kids and racer wannabes

Why have a huge tacho and shift light?.
Fuck the rpm, I want( NEED!) to know how fast I'm going at any given moment
to save my money and license
A glance at an analogue needle makes this quicker than reading a number.

Shift light?, FFS! more racer boi shite.
Most folk who actually ride bikes spend the vast majority of their time on roads
not tracks.
How much use is a programmable shift light in normal riding?

I see they sell all sorts of add ons you can easily live without.
All you really need to know is speed, coolant temp, and battery voltage
plus the basic lights for oil pressure, neutral, flashers and high beam.
(A fuel gauge could be useful on some occasions if it's accurate.)

The best instruments and status indicators should be simple, reliable and accurate
they should also be clearly visible at all times without being distracting by being lit up like christmas trees.

I too prefer the Smith's Chronometric, despite its sometimes unfortunate happenings.

I've always wanted a bike with a backwards speedometer.

Is that a bit sad? Embarassed

No, it's great fun! I've got a Triton, which has a Smith's speedo like that, but the rev counter goes the opposite way. When it's doing 80, one needle points straight up, the other points straight down Smile

slightly off topic, but "creative engineering" needed for a fix......or e bay special......

citroen despatch, long list for MOT, one being speedo......cant seem to find a used one, and a new one is £800 ffs......its all plastic basically.....

anyways the gearbox has a small "genny" that produces electricity sent to a motor in the speedo dash unit, that turn gears ( gear shaft bearings worn out so speedo dunna work ! ) an "eddy current" drum, just like in an old school speedo, ffs!!

So graft an old bike speedo unit into the dash speedo unit driven by an electric motor, this was suggested.......

maybe an analogue electric tacho with speedo face........

will be measuring gearbox genny output and then research e bay for a cheapo "dial unit"..........

It used to be that Chitroen Dispatch=Fiat Scudo=Peugeot Expert (up to 2007). If it is still the case, that might help.

If not, try 1stchoice.co.uk I have had good success using them. You only need to provide an e-mail address. They are middlemen for parts scrapyards. Fill in the form with your vehicle make/model/year and what you want, they send it to subscribed scrapyards, who e-mail you back with what they have and how much they want for it.

I bought a similar one to this different model tho it was the same thing tho one for 40 quid and the other for 180ish, i got the cheap one as its just for a buggy im building with a bandit engine, so dont mind if didnt look perfect,
it looks and functions perfectly so far, however the instructions were total rubbish translated from Chinese in black and white and there's obviously loads of wires so they had a pin out chart with colours and what it does, the pink wire was not called the pink wire, it was the "reddish brown" and some of the others were just totally wrong
I ended up trawling the internet and found a better pdf instructions I believe that was from the expensive version,
But once it was wired it is fine.
setting the wheel-size etc is a bit of a pain too tho, i had to google videos on how to do it as instructions didn't cover it
short vid of it working

I'm now thoroughly confused. Those links are for items selling at $31 and $40, why are you going on about 120 quid???

Spot on, in fact, that's all they're selling for! Confused
