It looks fixable.

I have a generator cover a left fairing and a footpeg hanger you can have if you decide to repair it, you'll have to spray the fairing white though and strip it.

You weren't considering overtaking, you were overtaking.

I expect you'll have to pay to get your bike back from the recovery people.

Thanks for the advice, just spoke to my breakdown cover and they will recover the vehicle from the storage to my address free of charge, so I will get on that asap.

Come again? Laughing Laughing

Is the road a dual carriageway?

that's just want the insurance boy told me, unlike a rear end which is default all the rear vehicles liability.

Nope, not dual carriageway

Would I have to pay upfront for them to release the bike?

Yes and every day it will go up by about 50_quid

Just find a decent no win no pay motorcycle specialised solicitor mate and sue his insurers. https://www.whitedalton.co.uk/

100% his fault - he can't start overtaking without checking his mirrors. Contact the police and get all details about his fault asap.

Unfortunately you need to pay the recovery to get your bike and claim all back from the compensation. Do it sooner then later - I believe the recovery scam police are doing is expensive.

Got the bike back, 260 quid and it was recovered on tuesday, would hate to see how much it would go up to! Rolling Eyes

My insurers (3rd party f&t) know, and I have contacted their insurers with all the details, police reference number etc., so now just waiting around for them to get back in touch with me.

cheers to all for the advice

When you leave the insurers to handle your claim, you basically leave some grossly incompetent paralegal (in best case) to deal with it.

Just call them and be firm that the police have identified his 100% fault and the law is clear he can't start overtaking without checking his mirrors. Do not let them agree 50/50.

If they can't handle it properly find a solicitor. Good luck Thumbs Up

Unless you are saying you are doing the claim yourself contacting directly his insurers. Which may work fine I have no idea how that works.

More accurately, cars behind you know that you are infront. However due to sound being highly directional and being emmitted backwards, loud exhausts are not effective at any significant speed, unless in a tunnel..

Id suggest bike is not badly damaged and it would be cheaper to replace fairing, gen cover and other parts, than the unavoidable 5 year increase in premium, although to late to change that now.

You may be correct now that I've had a proper look at it - Is there any chance some of the gen cover caused any internal damage if the engine didn't shut off right away?

Yeah too late since someone called the police straight away![/quote]

But I can hear my bike a mile off...

I also hear bikes coming from my office... if a car can't hear it when its 4 car lengths away...

Never be scared to abort an overtake. Many accidents are caused by the "I've started so I must finish" attitude to overtaking.
