A chance remark in the "What grinds you gears" leads me to open this.

I have not seen one daddy long legs flying around the place that I recall.

Have their larvae ("leatherjackets") been largely done for by the hot dry spell? Have you seen any (what county (UK) )?

Seen one yesterday afternoon Glasgow.
Trying to get into my hoose.
I thwarted it's plans by clouting it on the arse using the rear brake disc off my bike. (Bike in bits for repairs)

I'd just bought a dbl pack of Jaffa Cakes. Possibly Daddy Long Legs like Jaffa Cakes.

Loads here in Yorkshire. We have the back door open most of the time, with a very green and leafy back garden we get plenty in the house but the 3 cats soon get rid of them.
Just about time now to treat the lawn to combat the leatherjackets who eat the grass from below and f*ck it up.

OGR.

You must remember this: (Wee Bastirts)

"In 1935, Lord's Cricket Ground in London was among venues affected by leatherjackets. Several thousand were collected by ground staff and burned, because they caused bald patches on the wicket and the pitch took unaccustomed spin for much of the season."

Pulled up at a local drive-through this morning. (Judge away, people...!)

1st window - order taken.

2nd window - payment taken.

Me, to payment fellow: "Do you mind Daddy long legs?"
Payment fellow: "Er, not all that happy, why?"
Me: "There's one there, on the front side of the window you just leaned out of [points]"
Payment fellow: "Eeeee! [seriously Neutral ] I'll get rid of that .... [swishes, fragrantly at harmless oversized fly sat chilling]
Daddy long legs: Hur dur, I bumble inside nice cosy car for more peaceful sits [perches on my neck]
Me [laughing]: "Great work, mate!"

3rd window: at least 3 almost inaudible (frequency, not volume) females and Payment fellow doing loops about what to do. Picked off the fly, let him out and he stuck to the back of the post thing outside the window.

They're like the spaniel of the insect world. They are completely harmless and just about the easiest bug in the entire world to catch and relocate. What is the problem with them?

Far, far worse I'm afraid. They are actually vampires, and like to land on human necks for...well, you can guess.
What's worse is that when they've sucked you to a dry husk, they then lay their eggs in the puncture wounds, so thousands, no, millions*, of their offspring will then pour out and into your mouth, nose, down your trousers... Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked !!!!!1!!1!!

*No exaggeration, absolutely literally.

Don't be silly. Decaff is a government plot to control our minds and turn us into zombies.

Count the legs, bro. I admit, you'll have to get close enough to. Or you could take my word for it that at best they can have 6. Most likely 3 or 4 though, because 'where I dun put ma legh' and other considerations.

That's because they sacrifice some of their legs when clawing their way out of the puncture wounds. Some of them are born with 20 legs.
