Hey all,

I've got a 1979 DT175MX which has been running without fault since I've owned it (about 4 months now).

Recently I was out riding some green lanes and it just cut out on a road section as I was returning back to my car. I haven't been able to start it ever since and I have no idea what it could be.

There's a spark, it's getting fuel, it's getting air and it sounds close to wanting to fire but I've kicked it to death for hours and hours, tried bumping it 100 times and still have had no success.

5 mins before it cut out I hit a hidden pot hole on one of the lanes pretty hard so I wonder if that could've had something to do with it? Unlikely but thought worth mentioning.

When I got it home I took the carb apart to check it over and clean and noticed that the carb jet needle clip was missing. No idea what could've happened to it but replaced it anyway. I've attached a pic as I'm not sure if there's something else missing from in there which could be the cause of the issue? Looking at the one on my CG125 it has a clip holding it in place so not sure if the DT should also have something similar.

Anyway let me know if anyone has any suggestions. Gonna give in next week and take to a garage as I'm desperate to get back out on it.

Thanks

oh dear.......

so what stops the needle from rising up all by its self then.......or stops it from "staying up".......pictures are great ain't they !

you know of cmsnl for the exploded views, which will show what goes where and how much they cost.

Yes, if the flywheel key has sheared then it will still "spark" but at random times/positions......

I assume the engine "breaths" ok.

Jesus wept if you don’t know two strokes inside out then why have you bought a DT? Leave them for us that know what we are doing. And yes spitting a circlip will stop it running, it’s like having a blocked main jet only worse.

we all have to start somewhere....... :karma:
