Just filled up at a mini Morrisons petrol/supermarket place. Put card in machine to pay and front screen (not very clear) shows two small rectangles with small writing above. Taking time to read and not just agreeing with yes it says "Add 20% for charity".

Now I do have favourite causes having lost parents, but just to add something like this to everyday purchases seems wrong. No charity name is mentioned and no cause displayed. Could be for anything with no apparent traceability.

Put £20.00 worth of petrol in bike, looking around it would be easy to do a weeks shop in the place and get stung.

Charity should be voluntary and suit the donor morally as well as financially.

Loads of places do it, petrol stations, Morrisons, pretty sure HobbyCraft.. As to which charity, i guess you'll have to see what their sponsored charities are.. Don't think it's really much of an issue really

The one that 'surprises' me is www.topcashback.co.uk - when you want cash out, they actually ask if you'd like to deduct a tip for their employees. (No.)

Can't remember where it was, but a while back a supermarket (think it was, at least) did a voluntary "round up" on the bill, so if it came to £17.20, then 80p would go in the pot. Might have been Tesco.

I use an Esso petrol station, it asks, before you can even put your PIN in, whether you want to donate x amount to charity. Here's the funny. For a few months, the no button was on the right ... you'll never guess what they did.... Yep, they switched no to the left, I bet they've caught loads of people out with that, I'm awaiting the change again, it must be due soon.
