Hi years ago I used to collect street fighters magazine & nearly every bike in it was fitted with dyna coils. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a bit more info? pros/cons, advantages/disadvantages & where to buy them from? Cheers in advance.

Had a pair on the TL. They made no difference.

Is there a problem with your bike’s running, which you attribute to the present coils?

I don't know yet as I haven't had it running but the previous owner told me there's an ignition fault which has been attributed to the coils.

On oil cooled GSXR’s etc they are a vast improvement, but unless you have a specific fault then there’s no real need.

And back in the day were £80 a set when Suzuki coils were £320 a pair.

I was thinking about an aftermarket performance coil for my KMX once I'd fitted the programmable CDI, but it was me being a tart and there is no real benefit to trying to make a non std coil fit, especially as it already has a new OEM coil fitted.

I'd say on a 2stroke save the money for a new CDI if your tuning it instead.

It's not for the wolf dude they're for the TRX. Sorry I should've stated which they were for at the start of the thread. Embarassed

I can anecdotally say I've had marginally easier starting with them.

You can also use them to fit car type graphite HT leads. I've done so on a couple of bikes as these don't rot out as easily as the copper ones you find on bikes.

Only coils I have come across that actually failed, two separate bikes, a Dyna coil burnt out on each.

Do we think this is down to American quality and hype over a part that was never a problem (usually Japanese made)?

Or is it because people have historically been fitting these supposed wonder coils that have quite different primary resistance values to the std coils?

Thanks for the replies it looks like the general consensus is to not bother so I'll stick to the standard type. Thumbs Up
