£1000
Maybe depends on your palate/pocket.
I have seen some rather bottom end stuff in B&Q.
I would:
Check out reviews of the big ones.
Call the ones you fancy and find out what they sound like on the blower. (I know talk is cheap.)
And make a short list.
I need my front door stripped and re-painted. That is probably not any help for you.

You do realise you are opening a 45 gallon can of wurims by asking that on here?

Fit your own, it's quite easy and will save a few hundred quid. You measure around 5mm less than the brick to brick size of the doorway, to allow for expansion.
I got a nice composite one with stained double glazed panels in the top ,already mounted in it's frame and made to measure. It turned up with the plastic chocks to pad out the frame, mounting screws, Yale locks, handle and silicone sealant for around £500.
One tip though is to get the slightly dearer adjustable hinges, as mine took a few months to settle into shape and needed adjusting a few times until it was around 6 months old. All you do it lock it, then loosen the hinge adjusters and let it fall back into place, then tighten the adjuster screws. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Thanks for all the replies chaps, given me a lot to go on.
I will be going fully fitted simply for the convenience. I used to fit this kind of stuff 25 years ago and it's either straight forward or an absolute nightmare. These days I don't have the tools or the time to do it, I just had to buy a set of wood chisels as I needed to fit a new lock so don't really want to buy any more stuff at the moment.
I didn't realsie that building control had managed to amass so much red tape in the intervening 25 years. I always knew my local council were bad requiring permission for plumbing in a washing machine but it amazes me the extent of approval needed for basic things these days in private dwellings, approval needed for a new front door, new radiators etc seems a little extreme. |

That sounds extreme are you sure that's right?
I remember vaguely something about not messing around with plumbing or electrics without qualification, but a washing machine!?
Also, given what you've done with bikes and cars a door is a doddle.
I remember the landlord ordering us a new washing machine, fitted. When they delivered and seen it was a built in (had a door front on) they refused saying they don't do that kind.
Suffice to say I did it myself - after cutting the plug off
