Need an old XP Pro SP2 installation

I need to get hold of some diagnostic software and cable for an old Jaguar S Type project I'm playing with.

The only issue is that it will only install on an XP Pro SP2 installation. All of my old laptops are XP Home or newer and my only XP Pro CD is a HP OEM one for which I no longer have a product key.

A quick Google found an OEM key which worked for the HP OEM installation, but now won't let me login until activated. Activation fails if done through the online or telephone method.

Any ideas folks? Is there a cheap way of getting hold of an XP Pro installation which will activate? All the usual online lists of keys don't seem to work with this HP branded OEM copy.

Cheers folks. The reg hack didn't work even though it kept the values on reboot, but I've downloaded the ISO and am just making it into a bootable DVD.

There's plenty keys online, took less than 10 seconds to find one that works....
In fact it's the first result in a google search...

You need a Volume Licensing version ISO and key. No activation required at all then

And another waste of time. The only 3 product keys which have worked so far at setup stage, don't work at activation stage.

I'm wondering if you can no longer activate Windows XP in the same way anymore, I've tried the telephone and smartphone way. I'm not sure what key Owl is using, nor how he's installed a fresh copy of XP, but can only assume the keys Google is throwing up for me, will be the same ones he's using.

All call home xp activation services were decommissioned when support ended. There’s quite a few options for bypassing/disabling the activation though.

Cheers folks, got there in the end with the reg key edit. Managed to make it work by denying all "System" permissions in the advanced section and unticking the "inherit" button.

Thanks for the keys Paddy, I did give the X86 one a go, but it didn't want to work with my OEM installation. Worth a shot though.

I'm pretty sure the only way is to pirate it with a crack. M$ isn't going to let you activate software that they state is obsolete and insecure.

I think I might still have a copy of xp pro sp2 somewhere in my disc archives, I'll have a look if you want.
As I recall I bunged it in, booted up and off it went pre activated.
All you had to do then was install drivers for some of the hardware.

Yep still got XP pro SP3 preactivated.

Easiest way to get xp activated properly is via branded oem activation, no need to jump through hoops ringing microsoft to activate or risking having the coa blacklisted.

hp is an easy one to do just google hp dmi tattoo tool, it is a dos program which updates the motherboard bios dmi area to self activate with oem discs, It is designed to remark replacement motherboards so that they self activate.

You can mod a generic disc to any oem for activating oem systems but many of the files used are being lost as links die, It was possible to build multi oem activation into one disc so that you didn't need to carry round a stack of them.

I made myself an oem xp pro x64 sp2 to use on an old fujitsu system so that I could make use of all the ram a few years back, it was originally xp sp3 x32.

Is your computer a self build or an oem? windows 7/8 era machines often still have xp activation features, why not buy a matching brand installation media if you have an oem.

The only reasons I eventually left xp was the lack of 2d v-sync and driver support for new hardware everything else I could deal with.
