I've agreed to get the wife a car and there was a 2002 Honda Civic in Manchester with 60k and is in blue (the wife's favourite colour). I won the auction and am due to collect Thursday this week.

Buyer now states he forgot to mention that the clutch is noisy in neutral (makes a noise) BUT vanishes when the clutch is pressed in and all whilst driving it's quiet. I am not mechanically brilliant. Is this likely to be something simple? he tells me they all do that eventually.

What to do? does anyone who has any experience with Hondas guide me in the right direction? it's a 1.4 if that helps and a 2002 plate manual gear box.

Yeah, he's expecting me to buy it though. I'll ask him to cancel I suppose. Thank You Irn-Bru, speedy and helpful reply.

Either that or it didn't fetch what the seller wanted, so they're making excuses to pull out now. 60K miles sounds a bit low for a thrust bearing to fail.

I had this with a 12V compressor fridge for my campervan. After I won the auction at a really decent price, the seller suddenly realises he listed it as 12V, when in fact it's 24V. I told him that was fine, which threw his wriggle out excuse.

They are all 12/24V, you just jumper it for the correct setting.

He wants me to buy it, he wants that. Pick me up at the station and everything. I'm not so sure, I'm going to give it a swerve. I'll tell him I don't want it and see what he says. Thanks mpd72 CPT.

Yes it does, I've HPI'd it. Phoned him back and he's gone on a mad one. Suggesting he'll put me in court for breaking a legally binding contract as he has my address through eBay. Stuff him anyway.

He said you only hear it in neutral? not when driving or changing gear. Still he should have put it in the advert.

It's a known Civic thing in those models, ours started making the same noise at 74k miles. I looked into it, thinking to have it fixed, but the entire gearbox has to be taken out and opened. It's a little cage thing that has ball-bearings in it that fails. A lot of forum posts I found said it can continue running ok for over 20k~30k miles, just the whirring noise gets progressively louder.

Not obliged to buy vehicles on ebay. Rules are different.

Whilst I appreciate that, buy something closer to home if that's an issue. The 2 cars I've traveled to were dogs and not worth the time. I'd rather buy a local shed.
