Dead iPhone 5 screen

I stupidly agreed to replace a friends smashed iPhone screen for him. What he didn't tell me was after smashing the screen he went full retard and smashed up the phone further; the whole chassis was dented/twisted.

As the phone still powered on I got another (used) chassis and screen. Screen #1 was meant to be a genuine/refurbished item, the phone powered on with it fitted but the screen was blank. Thinking it might be faulty I sent it back and ordered a cheap Chinese screen, same thing the phone powers on but the screen stays blank.

Any ideas/suggestions or is it time to cut my losses?

If the screen stays blank, how do you know it’s powering on?

Just as a side note though, I replaced the screen on my 6 plus and all 3 screens bought from EBay all had different faults. I had to refit my cracked screen 3 effing times to go off and buy another. In the end I got one imported from Elekworld.

There’s a lot of faulty shit punted out as working on Ebay from Chinese sellers at the moment. The fake wireless earbuds are a good example of late. They sell a few working sets to get the feedback, then switch to the shit ones before a few thousand punters realise.

It makes a sound when I plug the charger in. Also when I set the phone to vibrate it vibrates which I don't think they do when turned off.

Fair enough. I take it the original screen is also blank as well as cracked if re-installed?

With 2 screens both with no display, you might have to presume there's no video signal reaching them. When I went through my 4 in a row faulty 6 plus screens, the faults were all different, only one of them showed no video.

Can you plug it into a PC? Does it detect it as an Iphone?

Yeah the old screen was blank. Yep the PC detects it. My old (working) iPhone 5 is still in the family but I don't really want to risk taking it apart.

I'd have thought the price of a replacement phone isn't much more than a new screen now?
