L4 GSXR1000 currently. Do I sack it off and get a 2017> R6? I've ridden litre bikes for the last 5 years perhaps, and might fancy a change. There's not another litre bike I want (RSV4 maybe, but a little explodey).

I still like sports bikes so think this is the way. Any other suggestions?

I use the bike mainly for commuting over an hour each way, it's not just motorway (A/B roads too), but I do a bit of motorway work every day.

I do fancy a play on the latest R6 - but I like my commuting to be as lazy as possible, or at least to have the option to be as lazy as possible - so the litre bike would definitely still win for me.

Saying that, if there was decent back roads to play on, with not so much traffic to dice with generally, I think I'd probably go for the smaller bike.

There's a bit of traffic, but it's not usually too bad. I hear what you're saying about the ease of a thou. Thinking

Just on the look for something bit more engaging. I'll probably change my mind a few times before next year then end up keeping it anyway.

Smaller engines mean more revs at still reasonable pace/speed and that is where the fun is. To be quick, not fast.

Everyone, every now and then, wants to push a bike to its limits. You won't be able to do that on a liter, on the open road.

Z1000SX gets my vote - love mine and when you take the factory luggage off, there's no ugly rails on show as the luggage clips are built into the grabrails.

Full LED lights, 2 power modes, 6 axis sensor for traction / cornering ABS ( you can turn it off ).

Genuinely a nice thing to commute on or have fun on.

I have considered a 959/899, not sure how well they take the bikes and how much "character"(breaking down) there is on the newer ones?

I think I'd go MT10 over the Z1000 family if it came down to it. I find the MT10 a bit too ugly, and the Z1000SX isn't much better to my eye.

Yeah the RS is the quick version of the 765. It's the closest thing to a 2019 Moto2 bike you'll get on the street (until Triumph build a Daytona 765R... Shhh! )

Actually if I had no bikes, and I wanted a fun bike for messing around on... it would likely be an S1000R sport... They are amazing value right now, and I don't think anyone needs more than 150bhp on the road...

The answer is almost always more bikes! Where enough bikes is N + 1 and N is the current number of bikes you have.

Anything without a fairing, you'd probably miss on an hour commute (if there is a fair bit of multi-lane roads).
Swapping between my faired / unfaired bikes does make it really noticeable. But like anything, you just adjust / accept its limitations on some areas to get the gains in others.


765 with a fairing would be spot on I reckon.....Daytona must be due soonish, but will be expensive initially.

I really wanted a GSXR-750 for the very reason I wanted more power then Street Triple, but not so much more it became boring.

Unfortunately the 750 seems to have less availability than the litre and prices+mileage are proportionally higher as a result.
In the end I went with the litre because of that. The extra weight is noticeable.

So yeah, another vote for 750 if you can find one you want and don't mind paying.
