Get out to a shop and stand in front of some.

The OLED or QLED ones tend to grab your attention the most due to superb contrast ratio, and the colours are richer than Warren Buffett.

That's because non native resolutions always look poor. A 1080p signal on a 1080p TV will look far far better than a 1080p signal on a 4k TV!

Encoding is important, yes but all else being equal the above applies. You also have to bear in mind that 4k is often compressed more than 1080p just because it needs to fit within the same bandwidth!

Compressed where? The newer HDMI cables have far more bandwidth than the old ones. That's why 4k only works with HDMI 2.0 and later.

Waaaaaaaaay before that point Chris!! Smile

Sorry, I mean 4k TV and OTT (catch up/streaming) content. Each TV has a decoder built into it which decodes the incoming video stream. After that the HDMI becomes important, but the signal is only ever as good as it's most compressed form, so as I said unless you have a 4k Blu Ray (which is still compressed) you'll see some kinds of compression artifacts on a 4k screen. Unless the compression is very low or the compression algorithm is very good. They are getting better, but I don't think they are fully optimised for 4k yet.

Get an LG or Samsung Smart TV, go to the app store and add SmartSTB then buy IPTV for it.

Best money youll ever spend.

Interestingly I own a brand new 49" 4K Samsung.

In the past, I used to torrent, then stream (Fire), then got bored, now just Netflix, Prime & Iplayer.

Do you have to pay a subscription, is it easy to use? Or is it a rollox like the firestick, forever needing updates and messing with.

Though i am interested.

Install Smart STB from the app store.

https://buy.streamkings.be/samsunglg/

Use code ipab33 to get 33% off.

Follow the instructions to the letter, it's simple to follow, but easy to make a mistake. Especially with the mac addresses.

The portal is free for 7 days, but skip that and pay for life, its about a years subs for life and can be used with any supplier and moved to a new TVs mac.

You will then get everything, including box office, movies, box sets, 3pm kick offs, all in HD.

Thank me later.

Free streams are shitty in comparison.

IPTV is just selecting the channel and the stream is up, in HD instantly.

Kodi builds are fine if you want to piss around for 20 mins trying to find a decent stream.

I rarely use Kodi anymore but my logic is if I'm gonna steal stuff, I'm not gonna pay to steal stuff Smile

Well yes I did that for ages, but these IPTV providers are leagues ahead of the free offerings.

The standard of them is worth the price, I'd never look elsewhere.
