I'm not sure if invited is the right word here.

There are several criteria an applicant state must fulfill to be even considered as a future member. Being a European country doesn't do it anymore.

If, or rather when, the UK falls apart, Scotland will become its own entity. Responsible for its own economy, laws, jurisprudence and so on. Plus, the EU won't accept any applicant that would/could cause significant security and political concerns to the EU. Being excluded from the ''cool kids'' club and being isolated, while your former best mates are joining in could be something worth starting a war for.

There is however something, that the EU would want, and that is the Scotland's naval territory. Fishing, oil, strategic reasons (the future EU army). I can see the EU bending their own rules a bit to allow Scotland in.

EDIT: Just to clarify my point. Right now, Scotland is being heavily supported by England. On its own, Scotland is a poor, rural region with no real industry (that thing that generates tons of money in tax) and being a logistical nightmare, I can't see any major manufacturers moving their business there.
