Father in law is restoring a Series 3 Land Rover and he’s just got the chassis back from galvanising.

His usual method of spraying (using etching primer) works well in the summer, but last weekend it hasn’t taken so well and has basically fallen off.

Chassis is stripped back to galv and ready to go again.

Any suggestions on what sort of paint he should be using to spray with?

When he used the etching primer, did the galv go black?
If not, then de-grease and etch it again.

Yes, it coated the chassis black and looked the job. It wasn't until he started fitting the leaf springs and the hubs etc that the paint started chipping off as soon as it was knocked. He took the pressure washer to it and the whole lot came off Confused

A couple of things: Does application of paint to galvy metal not depend on whether it was hot or cold dipped? With some galvy metal are you not supposed to leave it to settle for 6 months before applying paint??

I honestly don't know and would like to!

either have to wait until its warm again or paint inside a warm unit

we used to gave days we couldn't paint where I used to work if it was too cold
