Where are you all off in 2019?

near? far? solo? group? hotels? camping?

I've got a couple of ideas planned, not sure which ones will come to fruition this year...

I'd like to camp on Mull for a couple of days as part of a wider Scottish wander.

I'm toying with the idea of the Brittany coast-roads.

Possibly Assen.

I only have the CCM and a car. Seems I've just gotten into a relationship too and mix those together my plans are wrecked!!

I was hoping to borrow a van and carry the bike up to the Ardnimachuran peninsula and just wild camp - in the van probably. The bike was then to take me into every little corner of that part of the West Coast and ride the roads like they should be.

https://www.visitscotland.com/info/towns-villages/ardnamurchan-area-p236481

If I'm still courting then it'll likely be rent a cottage and do 4 wheeled touring up there.
My bike will just do hooligan days out closer to home. Time will tell though.

seems since the boundary 500 that price has crept up ;including camping
sites; and availability has dropped .. lots of tourists arriving on the newcastle ferry heading straight up the A19 .... hope you got plenty of credit cards..

And why I didn't visit during the Summer!
The peninsula has a letting agent who touts most of the sites up there (static caravans, cottages etc) and they've become greedy. Prices literally doubled in the space of a year.
Wild camping is permitted in Scotland (mostly) and why I wanted to just take a van. She might like camping so it might still be possible..

Getting a new bike sometime in March so probably at least one long weekend around Scotland. Ferry booked to Santander for later on. Going back to Picos d Europa and doing the usual routes through the Pyrenees. Giving the MotoGP at Montmelmo a miss this time - had enough of the traffic in the Barcelona area. After Spain a couple of days in France then a few easy days on Route Des Grande Alpes followed by a couple of days on the Swiss passes that were closed the last time we tried to cross them. A day on Autobahns to get us to Hessen, a couple of days visiting friends then the ferry home from Ijmuiden. 3 weeks in total.

Last year I spoke to two good friends about a 250 tour up North.
I even offered to lend them a bike and put them on my insurance.
They both said “yer yer”.
However as it got nearer to the the time , they bottled out Evil or Very Mad .
I ended up staying in Suffolk and playing motoball instead of going away.

Not to worry, I’m going on my own again in 2019.
I’m thinking Lincolnshire & Durham counties as I have liked them both as I have been passing through in the past.
Or back up to Polley Bridge (Penrith) way.

I’m going to do it before School holidays start.
No camping, just B&Bs or hostels.

250 tour, here I come Thumbs Up

Looking forward to returning to Tuscanny next year, via roads that do not include riding through france.
I rode to a friends wedding in 2005 on the R1 together with the best man who was on his R6,an ideal machine around the twisties.
But next July I will be on the FJ1200 and taking things a lot easier as Mrs.Fizzer will be along for the two weeks away.

we did this boundary 500 when it was not in full swing and stopped in bunkhouses .. better than camping but cheaper than B&B

https://www.visitdurness.com/bunkhouse/

but if you insist on camping .. https://www.sunartcamping.co.uk/

suspect won't be going much for some time now .. overpriced and crowded...

You need to pick your dates carefully. With Scotland, there will always be a risk about the weather if booking ahead (always is with any destination in Europe), but I found early May and late September/early October were good times to consider, and it felt like I had the whole of the west coast to myself. Wasn't pestered by midgies at these times either, although tbf I didn't camp. Locals were suggesting that these were good times to consider weather-wise too.

If you're stuck with booking in traditional holiday periods, I'd agree with the overcrowding thing, Lakes and Cornwall in particular. I've been lucky enough to have a couple of years when I could go at off-peak times, lucky enough to nearly always get good weather too. I'm sure you also know though, that continental weather can be every bit as bad as our own, especially in mountain regions.

I stayed at a couple of decent B&Bs that didn't break the bank in Scotland. Maybe I'm not so spoiled as you Razz Laughing I've also stayed at worse on the continent. But I also understand wishing to explore further afield if you've covered the home favourites a lot already.

I'm being particularly drawn by this as a vague outline plan...

fair shout... I think I get nhs discount with the chunnel too.

but after riding from wales, I often quite enjoy the couple of hours rest and a hot meal while on the ferry. kills a few riding breaks in one go tbh

Just been checking out ferry prices because "aFerry" mailed me some discounty stuff.

their best price for a random long weekend in may or june is looking like £45 return with the bike, forgotten which operator it was with.

I paid £30 return with dfds last july.

cheapest for same dates in may/june for dfds now, are £85 return.

is this some sort of post-brexit ferry-pocalypse? £30 to £85 is quite a jump.

I'm planning on heading to some scabby little island for two weeks in July to help prop up it's economy post-apocalexit.

Probably wildcamping around Scotland. Possibly a reverse NC500. but that goes around some nice stuff, and I know that I'll fancy going through it instead.
