I've heard the worst thing one can do to a SSD is using the defragmentation software.

Some programs for example Tune up Utilities will give a warning that
defragging will shorten the life of the drive.

Did a little research and I learned that SSD's have a limited life, cells
will die making the drive smaller. It's all to do with how much data is
written to the drive.

Some software actually tells you the health of your drive and how much
real capacity the drive has.

You must have other partitions on the master drive..

goto Control Panel, admin tools then computer management, click on storage - you should see the complete content of the master drive.

That's strange, can you post a screenshot/photo of the program (showing the partitions)? Everytime I've cloned a larger to smaller disk it's resized everything automatically.

What's on that 1.72 GB partition? You can copy over individual partitions with macrium, I'm guessing it's spazzing out cos it doesn't know which partition to re-size.

I don't know anything about the software....

I would think there is an option to compact the C drive....

It's no biggie, normally with a boot partition, main partition and (I think) even recovery partition it would resize the main partition automatically, but you can do it manually.

Give me a sec and I'll post some screenshots/instructions.

I don't think so Smile Had you done the efi system partition as well (the 260mb) then it would have.

It sounds like you've already worked out how to copy individual partitions so I'll start from there. One thing Macrium does poorly is it doesn't like it when there are other partitions at the end of the drive (I'm assuming Macrium shows the same as the disk management screenie)?

If you copy the first three partitions (again assuming Macrium shows the same), you should have WINRE > the 260MB boot partition* > then your main partition. From here you can click on the main partition and click 'cloned partition properties'.

*at least I'm fairly sure it is

Here you can adjust the partition size. Why I asked what the 1.72GB partition was (it's your porn stash isn't it) Smile is cos if you wanted to clone that as well you'd adjust the main partition size to allow space for it (and the recovery partition), so cigarette packet maths you'd adjust the partition with 23.63GB free then copy the remaining two partitions over.

Got it? Smile If not I can post screenshots. As you've already attempted a clone I think Macrium overwrites existing partitions on the target disk but double check what it's doing, you might have to reformat your SSD.

P.S. An image is just like a backup of the drive (obviously we want to clone).
