I'm not sure of the terminology but what is the best phone for a clean? android OS?

Wifie has a google nexus tablet she really likes and would like a phone that is the same. She runs a Samsung at the moment but it's due an upgrade so she wants something different.

Are the google pixel phones 'clean' and are they any good or is there something better she can try?

Pixel should offer what you want. I have the Pixel 2 and have no complaints (2 XL screen isn't the best, few well documented issues). Camera is excellent if that matters to her.

The Pixel line is Google flagship. The Pixel 2 shares much of the same hardware as the Samsung Galaxy S9. Can't advise on the Pixel 3 as I've not looked at it since I have no need to upgrade any time soon.

Nexus phones are stock Android. Historically cheap, but the last few have been getting expensive. Think they phased them out for the Pixel line. I lost intrest after the 5.

OnePlus are very close to stock Android. Similar story though, getting more expensive. I run the 5T, and chose it over the 6.

Oneplus are great, no bloatware at all.

I always swap out my default launcher to googles now launcher to get that minimal look too.

I've noticed that as well, I assume at the beginning they were massively undercutting to gain market share, my OnePlus 2 (which's still going strong) was only £200.

I had the google Pixel XL for the last 2 years and have no complaints, bought it for your reasons and I hate anything Samsung.

Very similar to the nexus 6p but that died on me after 1 years of very careful use but got a full refund from CPWH after 6 weeks of complaining.

It's more to do with them using cutting edge tech than making more profits.

The prices of the components have gone up a lot. Taking the One Plus 6 it has 8GB of some low power DDR4 RAM type. For a computer 8GB DDR4 is about £60! The process is made on a 10nm process of which there is quite limited capacity, loads of flash memory, two hi-res cameras etc.

If you want a cheap phone get a used one off ebay.

Nokia.

I got the Nokia 5 when it was launched, bought the Nokia 6 for my father later on. Still works great, clean system (no custom crap), no bloatware slowing it down.

Nah sorry, they are cheap for sure, but not a contender.

The Nokia 8 for example has a Qualcomm 835, hell that's 3 generations old. You would be much better off buying a used Oneplus 5/5T for the same money. It beats it all over the spec sheet.
Plus you'll also not be mocked by your peers.

OnePlus, 6 and up are superb. I prefer the 6 to the 6T because I like the accessible thumb print scanner.

I've had a 2, 3, 3T and a 6. I won't go back to a top brand name Android again.

I'm seriously considering the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 for my next phone.
That flip for the selfie camera is the way forward. Not that I have ever used a front facing camera, but it's great to have the full screen instead of a notch.

They'll only discover how effective duct tape can be.
