Hello all, I've made a few posts and reading along a bunch of threads here, thought I'd introduce myself.

Did CBT a few years ago and did a short city commute on a cbf125 for around 18 months, planning to do full license, but then, other things happened and sold the 125. Now I'm looking at doing a longer commute again, have just redone CBT, done the theory (what a joke!), and got DAS course and test booked for the new year.

Just checked on the school's fb pages, and they've got a new fleet for 790 Dukes for the new test requirements. Should be fun, I'm looking forward to it Very Happy

No doubt will be back in due course asking about what bike to get....

Congrats Very Happy

I passed in December and still have a Buzz from it, despite all the hassle and all the bits of paper you have to collect etc. it is soooo worth it when done.

Now you can get the bike (I felt like a kid in a toy shop again).

Well, I've not got experience of any other bikes bigger than 125, other than simply sitting on bikes in showrooms, so can't make real comparisons. But I really liked both the 690 and 790.

I spent a morning on a 690 in their training area, then was moved over to a 790 for the rest of the training and tests (another two days). So mostly was on the 790, and didn't get the 690 on the road at all. Not sure why we started on the 690s, maybe just because the 790s were new and they wanted to check we wern't liable to drop them!

Both the 690 and 790 seemed super stable in the slow maneuvers for mod 1 --- definitely nicer than trying the same on a 125. And handling the 790 out on the road seemed very natural. Obviously we weren't really pushing the bikes, being new riders, and mostly noodling about in town.

I really liked them both. I've added the 690 to my maybe list, and I'd consider getting a 790 if it was in my budget. Even the lairy orange styling is grown on me..

Well done, Tef will be knocking one out as we speak.

Welcome to biking proper.

Ha ha! Maybe. Though I've read a few of his lengthly posts (well, skimmed them). i did a three-day zero-to-hero, so I'm not sure he would really approve.

Will do. It's going to take me six moths or so to get some money saved up. Definitely won't be a ZZR1400 though! Probably aiming for something more like an MT 07/ Tracer 700. Or comparable models from other marques.
