|

Ok so as a new rider I've never experienced this before, I assume cyclist are all too familiar with it (but then why should it bother them as they don't have to obey the same road laws as us right?)...
Traffic lights that only change if something heavy enough drives over the pressure lines... I can sit there for what seems like an eternity sometimes.
Any hints, tips or tricks to get them to change? I've tried bouncing up and down looking like a right dork (fortunately nobody around to see me). Some I've been sat there for like 5 minutes and have only changed because a car has pulled up behind me. I live in the countryside so often have the road to myself, I assume this would be less of a problem in a town or city centre because you're always bound to have a car pull up behind you before long.
One car pulled up behind me the other day but not close enough to touch the lines, I moved forward and beckoned for him to move closer but he didn't. Having been sat there for about 5 minutes already I got off and went to go to his window to explain but he thought I was after a riot and screeched off LOL ____________________ Must Go Faster

Some people used to put a magnet off an old speaker on their sidestand.
Pushing the button on the crossing usually makes lights cycle.
It IS illegal to drive through a red light. Even if noone is there and it's stuck on red. However, who is there to catch you?
It is not illegal for a pedestrian to go through a red light. So my solution has always been to get off and push through the junction then get back on again and ride off. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. The lights coming out of Duxford War Museum don't respond to the bike so I've had to turn left against a red light twice recently. At my old place of work the Kawasaki would trigger the barrier to rise but the Yamaha never would, despite positioning the bike in various places in the box or putting the side stand on a line. This used to annoy the security guards who would have to stand up, walk 5 paces and flick a switch. If there was a new guy on we'd have to go through the, "twist the throttle and roll forward," mime. I'd have to do it a couple of times and then do a Daily Mail Sad Face (as far as the visor would allow) until he understood. ____________________ '93 Yamaha XJR400 grey import (p-ex’d), '99 Kawasaki ZX6R (nicked), another '99 ZX6R (still got it) and '03 Yamaha YZF-R1 (still got that too.) |

This is true, there's good in bad in all groups and it's not fair to tar everyone in a certain group with the same brush, no matter how tempting it is! However you don't see any other type of road user [i]routinely[/]i flouting the laws. Only cyclist. And while it may only be 10%, 25% or whatever, that's still significantly more than the 0.1% of every other type of road user. |
Around here red seems to mean one more car floors it through I don't doubt cyclists jump more traffic lights, but they seem to do it a lot more safely than a car booting it through, or not seeing/CBA stopping for a light. Being vulnerable makes it somewhat self-regulating.
Stuff like one-ways yeah they're often flouted, but a lot of drivers don't realise there's often an exception for cyclists, and try to drive at you Also note cars/bikers make mistakes and go the wrong way down one-way streets, you normally don't drive at them.
Having done loads of all three (driving, cycling, motorcycling) cyclists have to put up with more shit and are treated worse than the other way round IMO. Still bloody cyclists |

This copper pulls me over for running an amber light once and asks why I didn't stop. I said it was because I was going too fast. After he stopped rolling on the floor trying to stop his sides from splitting he let me go with a warning. ____________________ Must Go Faster
