Just watched BEAT (entire season) from Prime, it's German with English subtitles. Really eally enjoyed it start to finish, good storyline, gritty, in your face. Easily up there with with my faves. 8.5/10 Thumbs Up

Also recently watched Odd Thomas 2014 film, easy watch, nothing too taxing, light-hearted (despite the storyline topic). 7.5/10

The Vanishing. 1/10 SPOILER ALERT.

Action Jock Gerard Butler in quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen. Also features Peter Mullan whom I personally rate as an actor. This was the most boring film I have ever seen. Jock 1 and Jock 2 and another Jock take care of a light house in the 1900's, a small boat gets wrecked and the survivor goes all terminator and tries to kill Jock 1/2/3. He ends up getting killed trying to protect a wooden chest that he has in his wrecked boat. Chest gets open and contains (GOLD), wow. 24 hours pass. Jock 1/2/3 decide the best thing to do is wrap dead body up in a bin bag and fling him into the sea. Just as this is happening a boat arrives. More Jocks. HEY U HAV YOU SEEN OUR MATE AT ALL EH LADDIE?, Peter Mullan gives it the big 'un and tells them their mate is dead and the chest has been collected 3 hours prior to their arrival and to basically 'do one'. They go. Then decide to turn back and storm the island. Much Jock violence, Gerard ends up killing a boy that was part of the boat crew that stormed the island. As the boy is the same age as his own son or thereabouts he can't live with the guilt. Goes on a mad one and kills Jock 3 (not Mullan). Film ends with Gerard on a boat with Mullan who drowns him at his request, Gerard jumps in the freezing sea and Mullan holds his head under until deaded. Films ends with Mullan all alone on the boat with the gold.

Serioulsy the biggest pile of crap I've seen in a long time.

Tony (london serial killer) 7/10

I liked it. I reckon it would have been blacker and funnier if Reece Shearsmith from League of Gentleman had been the star.

Outlaw King - 6.5/10

A bit of internetting tells me it has much greater historical accuracy than Braveheart, so it gets points for that. Also, it was produced by a Glasgow based company, so it can have some more points for the grassroots aspect.

Wasn't that great of a movie though. Worth one watch, but not more. Braveheart was better and more iconic, even if it was a load of bollocks.

Captaik Kirk actor did a reasonable Scottish accent. He actually sounded more Scottish than some of the other folk in the film, who I guess were English folk putting on Scottish accents. Well done, yank. Only problem was he acted like a yank actor would be expected to act. Didn't have the correct style.

New series on Netflix, ten episodes, first-class shizzle, 9.5/10: You.

Shades of Dexter.

Greenbook - 7.5/10

What a great film. I do like culture shock type documentaries and I quite like it in films too but this was more of a role reversal where the white guy was the employee / driver of the black prominent musician in the 1960s.

Class act all the way through and an enjoyable true story.

I decided to watch "Roma" cos it was a film, instead of "You" which was a series, cos I haven't finished "A Series of Unfortunate Events" yet ... but now that you mentioned Dexterrrrrrrrr Wub Thinking : is it serial killery? *rubs thighs in anticipation*

Roma has Spanish subtitles and I really can't be arsed at this time of night. I might just leave that until later ...

... maybe a little light murder instead ...

Bohemian Rhapsody 5/10 - this left me a little disappointed, it seems to be aimed at the general public who aren't Queen fans, but then why would you watch this if you aren't a Queen fan*. If you know the name Freddie Mercury you'll know the story, the music is good but the overall childish and superficial tone of the film left me disappointed.

*maybe skip this one trevor saxe-coburg-gotha Smile

Something seemed off with Rami Malek's performance of FM, Brian May was portrayed brilliantly, it looked and sounded exactly like him...

The Fountain

pigswill mostly

looks pretty, but otherwise soppy boring romance getting in the way of what could've been Time Bandits meets Pi the movie. The metaphysics and spirituality have just been lifted from here there and everywhere, there were the odd moments of intense interest, but they were too fleeting

I wanted him to just shove his stupid love interest off of the roof and go back to fighting the Spanish inquisition.

Oh, and Stanley Kubrick and Peter Jackson both called, they want their plot elements back.

He must have made good films to get the reputation and films he has done but I'm struggling to think of any.

It's been a while since he's been in anything decent though.

I think a bit like Michael Caine used to be a few years back, he doesn't care about being in a turkey, and just says yes to the work.

American Gangster - 9/10

Not bad at all.

Is Denzel Washington the kind of actor who plays the same role in most films? I haven't seem much of his other stuff. Either way, he absolutely owned this one.

Would watch again, all 2 and a half hours of it Thumbs Up

Did you notice the web address on the wall in the 1970s?

Valerian, City Of A Thousand Planets 5.5/10

Can be summed up in one word. Shame.

It had so much potential, it looked beautiful, the premise and plot were both interesting, most of the cast did a great job with the material they had.

However, the lead character (Valerian) was played by a man with charisma so low that it was negative. He literally sucked out ALL of the charisma from anyone he's on screen with. If Dane DeHaan ever helms another big budget movie I'd be surprised. The love story was so ill written, and quite #metoo it made me actively dislike Valerian.

It could be saved. A few reshoots, cut out anything Dane Dehaan did and replace it with an actor who can act, can lead a blockbuster, It could well work.

Shame it didn't work out. Shame on Luc Besson for being a classic French misogynist. Shame on Dane Dehaan for being a charisma vacuum. I mean, I'm no feminist, but the love story, particularly the beach scene at the beginning made me feel very very uncomfortable.

FTFY Smile I don't see his appeal personally, a bit like Nicolas Cage it's whether or not the role fits him than the other way round.

Bohemian Rhapsody - 5/10 (at best)

Way too overhyped. The casting was good, though.

Yep I hate hype, although I sometimes do it to myself if I've really enjoyed the previous film(s) in a series.

We went to see Destroyer last night.

Starring an incredibly rough looking Nicole Kidman as a drunken cop chasing members of an armed gang who robbed banks when she was undercover with them.

I'm not 100% on this. At the heart of it is a good story with good characters. The cinematography is great, but it feels lacking. If they had gone into the story itself a bit more, and a little less into the art stylings, this could have been *great*. As is was, it was more like a wank. It was good, but it could have been a lot better. 7/10
