It was an old field bike, a 175cc bag of nails with wobbly forks and absolutely no guts whatsoever.
To this day I wouldn’t put a Bantam in my garage . |
It's probably more due to numbers but it's funny how they're the one really affordable 'classic' bike. I've considered getting one but I know I'd find it slow and the brakes terrifying. |

Triumph T120 Bonneville (the recent one - not the original)
Apalling build Quality
Corrosion
Pathetic suspension
Ludicrously uncomfortable seat
Way to little power for a 1200cc engine
Triumph - couldn't give a fuck attitude to problems
Just cheap and nasty crap
The worst bike I've ever owned by a massive margin! |

Aren't they made in Thailand? Not surprising seeing as a number of the (recent) problem Honda's are made there too. |

I rode a GSXR1000 after that, and really liked it which surprised me. So it's not 1000cc bikes that are the problem... more bikes whose suspension doesn't suit me.
I wasn't a massive fan of Katy's 1200 bandit particularly, but I didn't hate it as such... |

I don’t know... I’ve owned worse bikes objectively but I think it’s about expectation. I didn’t expect my KE100 to be an amazing trackday bike for example. Everyone raves about the 954 but I hated it.
Objectively the worst bike i’ve ever ridden was probably the SR125 I rode on my CBT but it’s hard to hold that against it really, as it’s a learner 125 from a training school. |
Alright, expectation about the 400 Superdream. I expected it to be ok, at least faintly competent, not exciting but useable. A middle-weight hack that would do the job. Kind of like a standard Ford Escort of the bike world.
I'll try to be objective.
It was a complete sack of shite, nothing worked as I thought motorcycles were intended to, and it did indeed appear to have a hinge in the middle of the frame. I have never, and will never forgive Honda for that abomination. I am still traumatised to this day, and it was something like 30 years ago I had one. £50 for a night down the pub was a fully acceptable exchange. Burning it may have been a better method of getting shot of it; at least that way I'd have had to ride it one less time. And that's all going by the standards of the time.
Now, tell me about your expectation of the 954 Blade again? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Well, to be blunt... I expected it to be good. It wasn't. At least not for me anyway.
It wouldn't turn, and when it did the rear tyre slid. It had no feel and the throttle was twitchy. The engine lacked any kind of character beyond "Waaaa you're doing 120mph". I could never get any confidence in it, and I sold it after owning it for less than 6 months. |
Swap my Superdream for your 954?
You never know, you might think the Wetdream has "character" ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Similar experience I had with my America, and that wasn't a Thai bike, except I also had the added bonus of the engine cutting out, randomly, but, usually when it did it was whilst slowing down coming off the motorway !! Or, on the approach to roundabouts. It's why, even though I like the look of some Triumph bikes, I won't get another Triumph, Still wasn't the worse bike I've owned, that goes to the Divvy.. ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

I've always had a bit of a thing for Kawasaki and Yamaha's over the other brands |
Same here as it happens. Kawasaki was first for me, more in the air cooled days though. Had a few Suzukis - finish wasn't great on the ones I had, but some fine bikes from an enjoyment point of view. Honda generally always seemed a little bland to me, but again, they made some very good bikes too.
Yamaha these days, and largely because they've often done something a little different, just more interesting, although my current one is just because it's a very good bike for what I want.
Italians? Nope, could never afford them ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

No Japanese manufacturer especially in critical or big spending very close competition classes like sports bikes or motocross bikes is ever consistently the best every year with every model, it just can't happen. That's why I thought that RS chap had such an odd view IMO.
Yeah I've never had any Italians, would love at least one though, though I suspect it's a weakness and disease once you've tried one.
I could easily have a fleet of rare Italian bikes in Stevo's dream garage, and I doubt they'd be the obvious poster bikes in many cases. |
