You couldn't make this shit up...
So I bought a salvage 2015 Focus for £3,500 (scrape all along the whole nearside from front to back), spent just over £1,500 fixing it (two new doors, rear bumper and front wing) so owes me a shade over £5,000. Finally got it back from the bodyshop https://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/static/v10/images/merchant/logo/128px/27_160420110828.png about a week ago and advertised it on eBay for £6,500...
A lovely young couple came over to look at it tonight, I pulled it off my driveway so they could take it for a test drive and they parked their car in the space it had just moved out of.
Sat at the bottom of the driveway chatting for a bit before we pulled off and WALLOP their car had rolled down the driveway and smacked straight into the side of the Focus. The same side that had JUST been repaired. Now needs two doors but fortunately no damage to the sill or front/rear wings or bumpers.
Both parties totally gutted! ____________________ Must Go Faster

If it was salvage, I presume you needed to declare it as a category write off? Did you? ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Sorry whose sock did you say you were again?
Full of shit today aren't we.
Do Currys buy in TVs and then sell them to the general pubic for the same price as what they paid for them? Or do they sell them to make a profit?
That car is actually slightly under-priced at £6,500 to take into account its cat N status. At that price it's the cheapest one like it on Auto Trader and eBay. What I paid for it is irrelevant, if there's a profit in it for me that's my prerogative. I had the inclination and invested money, time and effort into the project. It's only right that I should make a profit from it. And that profit comes from purchasing the vehicle for MUCH LESS than simply the market value minus the cost of the repairs. Not from mugging someone right off and selling it above its market value. So no, it's not a £3,500 car. It's a £6,500 to £7,000 car currently with about £400 worth of damage to it WHICH THEY CAUSED.
When I bought the car it had been scraped all up one side from front to back. Ripped the rear bumper off, cracked the rear light cluster, damaged the rear wing, both doors and front wing. Also the lower suspension arm and track rod were bent which has all been repaired. Total expenses including parts, labour, train fare to collect the car in the first place, lunch and refreshments that day, a bit of diesel put in the tank, insurance (yes, insurance!), mechanical repairs, valet, V5C document replacement fee, stamp, eBay listing, my own HPI check... EVERYTHING came to a shade over £1,500
The only damage the car has now is to both doors. Get both doors in the same colour and it's a bolt-off / bolt-on job. Doors should be about £150 a piece and an hour labour max. Should be able to be put right again for comfortably under £400. But that's down to them, not me.
I took her out for a test drive in it anyway and she really loved it anyway. I said obviously it's got to be paid for but no pressure as to how they want to go about it. I gave them the option of going through their insurance, paying for the repairs themselves or just buying the car as-is. Looks like they're buying it as-is but will find out for sure on Saturday. I've also said I'm happy to help get the repairs done (at their expense) as I can get trade prices. So my conscience is clean mate. This wasn't some elaborate set-up in order to con them into buying a car they don't want. I haven't forced them into anything, and it's not MY fault that THEIR car rolled into MINE.
And yes, it was insured, taxed and MOT'd at the time it was on the road and their car rolled into it, and it still is, as I've taken it out of storage and have been using it privately for the past few days since one of my cabs' engine blew up on Saturday night so I got temp insurance until the end of the month as that's when I collect a new addition to the fleet. Bummer is, if it does sell on Saturday I literally have no transport until the end of the month (other than 6 motorcycles or a 21-seater coach). ____________________ Must Go Faster

There's a difference between making a profit and taking the piss.
Just another example of doing what someone can get away with, without a care in the world about whether it's right or wrong. ____________________ Yamaha MT-09

Don't like fact then?
You have sold an insurance write off for full price. The people who have paid full price have ended up with a car which was in the same state as it was as a write off, for full price money. You also admitted to not declaring it was a write off in the advert, so they had no prior knowledge of this before coming out to view it.
As for the insurance. I'm not sure I believe you, as your version of events has now been modified to suit your argument. Why would you insure it just to do up and sell? Where are you getting short term insurance from? I suspect you parked it on a public road, uninsured and it got hit. I'd be surprised if their third party insurance would pay out for damage to your insurance write off, which with no valid insurance to be on the road at the time their car rolled into it, so shouldn't have been there anyway.
You've been quite lucky as dodgy car dealers go IMO as they could have legally told you to do one, even for just listing it without advertising it as a write off. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

mpd72 CPT wrote: | Don't like fact then? |
And what facts would these be? As so far all I've seen from you is fiction, speculation, assumption and plain outright bullshit.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | You have sold an insurance write off for full price. |
Wrong - It's under-priced. As I said it's cheaper than the next cheapest equivalent in the country on eBay and Auto Trader.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | The people who have paid full price have ended up with a car which was in the same state as it was as a write off, for full price money. |
Wrong - It's not in the same state it was, as I said, it's only two doors this time instead of the whole side front to back plus rear bumper plus suspension.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | You also admitted to not declaring it was a write off in the advert, so they had no prior knowledge of this before coming out to view it. |
It wasn't on the advert but when they asked I told them. And as I've said I gave them the option to just pay for the damage or claim through their insurance. No pressure has been placed on them to buy the car.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | As for the insurance. I'm not sure I believe you |
Wrong - It's your prerogative to believe whatever you want. But if you're so inclined you can check on https://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ to see if it's insured and https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla to see if it has MOT and tax. Registration is BC15 FRP https://i.ibb.co/2SjLDF1/Focus.png
Next you're going to tell me I got it insured and taxed just to prove a point to you.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | your version of events has now been modified to suit your argument |
Wrong - How have they changed? Be specific and quote me on something that I have said that contradicts something else I have said previously.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | Why would you insure it just to do up and sell? |
I didn't. I insured it from Sunday 10th until Sunday 31st so that I could use it privately for transport just so I could get around as the engine in the taxi that I usually use blew up on Saturday night and I don't get a replacement until the end of the month.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | Where are you getting short term insurance from? |
https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/motor/short-term-car-insurance/
I always use this website for picking up new cars etc. although I usually only cover for a day or two. I've never done anything as long as 21 days before. They don't do bikes though so I use https://www.tempcover.com/ for bikes.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | I suspect you parked it on a public road, uninsured and it got hit |
Wrong - Based on??? Fuck knows, other than being a miserable cynical twat and always thinking the worst of people.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | I'd be surprised if their third party insurance would pay out for damage to insurance write off, which with no valid insurance to be on the road at the time their car rolled into it, so shouldn't have been there anyway. |
Wrong - They would have to pay out. The fact that it was a write-off is irrelevant. It had been repaired to good-as-new standard and was worth every penny of £6,500. As we've already established it was insured so there'd be no get-out for their insurance company on this technicality.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | You've been quite lucky as dodgy car dealers go |
I'm not a car dealer.
mpd72 CPT wrote: | they could have legally told you to do one, even for just listing it without advertising it as a write off. |
I didn't mention the two small stone-chips on the bonnet either. Or the minor curbing on one wheel. Or the mud on the carpet in the back. It's not what you leave out that matters, it's if you say something that isn't true.
So you're argument is that they wouldn't have to pay for the damages that they caused to my car because I advertised it and didn't mention it was a cat N on the advert. What if the car wasn't for sale and some passerby just happened to clip it. Are you telling me that legally they wouldn't have to cover the damage because it's a cat N and I didn't mention it to anyone? LOL you're a joker. ____________________ Must Go Faster

Women and cars AGAIN
Wifie coming in from running - 'I've had a bit of a bump, but don't worry, I'm fine'. While trying not to say hows the car I asked what happened? Seems she reversed into another car, no don't know what car but she cracked the bumper of it, that's all.
THAT'S FUCKING ALL
Stupid bitch. I just hope it's not too serious as we have multicar so that's my NC fucked as well if it's too expensive to pay cash. Will find out tomorrow when other person (another female) can get hubby to look at it.
AND
Youngest daughter has got a slow puncture on MY Twingo. Can I look at it? Me 'Um, it's dark out there so no I can't. Bring it round Sunday day time, here's a compressor to keep it pumped up.'
'Oh, I'm going riding Sunday, how about tomorrow?'
No, tomorrow I am either going to spend the day in the pub or on the boat, both with copious amounts of alcohol watching the rugby and forgetting about women.
Bring it round Sunday day time
