Divvy's are great! On my second one now... I find the engine a little flat, but then I do prefer the characteristics of my twins....
I find it amusing how people can say they're boring...

|
|
Hi,
Apologies for the hijack and resurrection - but I really need some info and hoping you can help!
I'm hoping to buy an XJR400 this week and am doing my research - as I want to use it daily during the spring/summer and convert to a cafe racer over the winter I am likely to need a manual - or at least reference material for tolerances!
Reading this post it looks like one was never produced in English?
In which case, does anyone know if the XJR1200 or XJ600 are similar in any part to the 400? I'm wondering if the basic systems are the same and a manual for either of these would go some (or most) of the way for the XJR400?
Related - how easy are parts to come by? I can see wemoto and other similar sites stock basic service parts and gaskets etc.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know.
You can swap engines between the XJ400 Diversion and XJ600 Diversion - the 400 has different cylinder sleeves and the head is machined differently. But this is just what people have found out, and it isn't documented. There may be other differences between the machines, and there probably are, otherwise the Haynes manual for XJ600 Diversion would say it also covered the XJ400 Diversion. But it doesn't.
In your case, you're dealing with a bike that has an engine that's probably very similar to the XJ600 pre-Diversion. But we don't know that for certain. There is no XJR400 Haynes, nor an XJR600 Haynes.
When you look at the XJ600 pre-Diversion, the Haynes manual for that bike does not state it also covers the XJR600 nor the XJR400. Rather, the manual is titled:
"Yamaha FZ, FJ, XJ and YX600 Radian Air-cooled Fours"
I could not find any Haynes manual at all for an XJR600 or XJR400.
Neither is there any owners manual for those bikes on the Yamaha Motorsports website.
Were these bikes grey imports? A Google search suggests that the only owners manuals for these are in Japanese.
If you were to buy it and keep it original, that would be much cooler than a cafe racer. It will probably be quite desirable at some point. But anyway, you will be going in blind with no Haynes. |
