I went to collect 1 of my bikes that has been in storage for a while yesterday. The battery was as dead as a dodo, however, jump started first time using this.. I highly recommend it!!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20000mAh-Car-Jump-Start-Starter-Battery-Charger-Booster-Rescue-Pack-Power-Bank/382734103690?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Nice & compact, and, when not needing it jump start, can use it as a power bank for other things.

Trouble with those is knowing who is telling the truth about the power and specs.

Yours is 20000mAH, the one linked below SAYS it is 68800mAH and 10 quid cheaper.

Very true, I did look around, and picked what seemed most realistic !! It appears I struck lucky with this one.

First rule of cheap Chinese powerbanks is that they lie about capacity all the time.

I have a Sealey one that I have used about 5 times on 2.4L Diesel engines no problem.

Either way, capacity isn't really an issue for these. So long as they output enough current to crank the engine, they are a great little tool to have. If you needed to rely on one to use regularly, you would spend the money on a decent one and they are a few hundred £.

Reminds me of Ebay power banks. I recall a chinese made unbranded one which was full of sand/rocks to give it more weight, closer to what an actual 10000 mah pack would have Rolling Eyes

I have one of those, though a 'better quality' Micro-Start. First thing it ever started was a 6 ton digger.

I realised these things are pure voodoo after I watched a mate start a third diesel van with one after a weekend festival.

This is a timely thread for me because I bought a similar device from Halfords for £60 at the weekend. It was at 50% so I've charged it up, which took 1-2hours. I'm not sure whether the Kawasaki's 8Ah battery is the victim of a parasitic draw (I did test for such but I've just realised I might have done it wrong) but the Yamaha's 10Ah battery lasts noteably longer now that both are hibernating in a cold garage. (Personal circumstances, I used to be a one-bike, daily rider which meant a battery lasted donkey's years.) The Kawasaki has no alarm (I removed it) whilst the Yamaha still has one. I've been jump starting the Kawasaki and then trying not to stop for half an hour so the bike will have charged it's own battery. That can be a pain so now I have this portable jump starter (which I haven't tried yet).

Not really. The problem with Chinese stuff is there's no quality control so they'll punt out whatever they make unless it's screened. (By Halfords Praying Laughing ). Most times you'll get a good one.

Sleeping Sleeping Sleeping

Does the job, worked perfectly, so, I'm happy regardless, plenty of more expensive ones around, as well as cheaper options as well.

I guess a good test will come when I try and start the motorhome with it, as that's currently in storage. However, if it starts that, then in my eyes it will be a bargain !!

Anyone using the cheap Chinese ones, if it stops working, check the diode pack on the leads.

Years ago I got a "proper" jump pack from Halfords: carry handle, big croc clips, built in tyre inflater etc.

Nothing but bleedin' trouble!

Then I got one of the aforementioned battery pack / jump starter combos... looked weedy but always 100% reliable.

I've got one of those too but I only use it with a charger to maintain the bike batteries now and again. It's a bit more convenient than taking the batteries out of two bikes and charging them in the kitchen. Reviews were mixed but again, it's down to quality control. I got a good one. The tyre inflater is pathetic though.
