Hi all,

I've been having a bit of a nightmare with my motorcycle.
Original issue is that a valve stuck open in one of the carbs so without me knowing filled the RHS Cylinder with fuel. So ran on one cylinder, then wouldn't even run whatsoever.

Fixed the fuel issue. But now i'm not getting any spark on either of the cylinders. Thought it would be a massive coincidence if both coils stopped working at the same time; so i presume it must be something else. Bike has been garaged the entire time and just one day wouldn't switch on. Any suggestions?

What to test etc?

Would be of great help if anyone knows anything!

You say no spark and then would not switch on???
On some bikes the kill switch or safety switches can kill the spark so what`s the story??

Not uncommon for the ECU to die on these bikes, usual first indicator that the ECU is on its way out is that the rev counter stops working then no sparks. Well worth borrowing a known working ECU to check before pulling the bike apart. I have seen at least 6 of these machines which all had faulty ECU causing the same problem you have.

Quick update, the Ignition coils also seem fine. They have the correct resistance. Would there be anything I can do to check the ECU is working?

Checked voltage from spark plug cap to ground, was around 150-200v when the bike was on but dropped to below 1 when cranking. Is this normal?

Tachometer was also working fine the last time the bike ran (about 6 months ago). And would have to buy a CDI as don't have any to borrow.

check the ECU terminal connections for corrosion, also side stand switch if fitted , ignition switch and kill switch. Use some switch cleaner or WD40 around the switches and connections to start with.

Cleaned the side stand, and the ECU. Surely if something wasn't connected properly it wouldn't even crank? Everything works except for the spark itself.

The bike will turn over with a faulty ECU, have you checked all fuses and bridging the the side stand switch.

Fuses are all clean. Still trying to find the connector switch between the diode and side stand switch. to test out the resistance. Perhaps a low battery? At the moment charging mine. Perhaps the starter motor is using a lot of the energy.

I have bridged the side stand switch to no avail. So surely it must be the ignition coils?

Have you tried jumping the battery whilst starting?
Cranking the engine could result in no amps to drive a spark. Jumping from a known good battery/car/bike will remove this as a possibility.
