Grid lock... total grid lock!
That was my town this morning: from west to east one solid line of unmoving traffic
Ah, the joys of a bike... bypassing all the "normal" ppl and carrying on unhindered.
Looking forward to more traffic chaos tomorrow ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Good point, I try and train myself to assess potential hazards by watching Dash Cam Australia...
While normally a kind and generous ppl the ozzies certainly don't like to give way! There's also a high prevalence of colour-blindness: they seem to mix up red and green at traffic lights a lot! ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

With regards to city driving/riding...
There's generally the mutual respect that both car and bike both pay road tax, duty on fuel and have insurance, both had to take a test (or at least the CBT.) "We both have a right to be on the road."
And in turn this is why the lycra-clad, vegan eco-warriors on their push bikes are so despised: they've not had to pay anything directly to utilise the tarmac and they flout all the rules of the road because they don't have a licence to slap points on. ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

You don't pay road tax....
Everyone gets taxes to a degree.. you really think that your 'road tax' pays for roads. Are you dense. It's excise duty. On your vehicle. |

A fundamental disconnect in attitudes between two road using groups. Tribalism arises and angry words are oft exchanged... |
I fall into all three road groups; I've got a car (a thirsty Subaru), motorbikes and also pushbikes; most of my commuting is done on a pushbike because going in and out of Manchester at rush hour I can actually match a motorcycle for pace, can take shortcuts along bus lanes and non-car/motorbike areas that bicycles can legally use such as Portland Street and Oxford Road, and have a lot less hassle at the other end (just hang it up in the office lobby, the motorbike requires properly chaining up and faffing around in a nearby car park).
Personally, I abide by the rules of the road regardless of what vehicle I'm using, including bicycles. I find generally speaking a mutual respect from motorcyclists when I'm on my bicycle, although I admit there are a lot of prats around on bicycles which annoy me regardless of my mode of transport. Unfortunately, as far as the majority are concerned, statements that all cyclists are law-flouting idiots is the same syndrome as the labeling of all motorcyclists as lunatics; people notice and remember the extremes, whereas the sensible ones are forgotten about quickly.
For my part, I always try to acknowledge courtesy; if I'm cycling around a bus and a car holds back for me to let me get past, I'll give them a little wave, likewise on my motorbike if I can (not always possible though because of the controls!). Ditto if I filter to the front of a queue and pull slightly in front of the front car, I will turn and make eye contact and again give a little wave of thanks just in case they feel a little peeved that I've sneaked in front of them. Seems to have worked for me so far. ____________________ TG. |

Yes, why can't everyone just calm down and get along...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpYeekQkAdc
Attitude is everything but it's strange how one's mood can so easily be affected: my faux-cruiser has an (optimistic) top speed around 60mph and yet I feel like I'm oozing down the street in a motorised arm chair with little to care about other than Uber U-turns without signalling.
Contrast that to the ebike that tops out "only" 34mph and yet it feels like I'm tearing up the tarmac! It is NOT a calm experience... a lot of fun though.
And the car now is just so dull I can see why ppl fall asleep at the wheel ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
