Presumably they'd just get it back by bumping your premium up next time (and sharing info with other companies).

Because you paid for a policy to cover the excess in the event of an accident?

Probably a case of you pay the excess and claim it back from whoever you have the excess cover with.

No but it's offered on a lot of policies.
I'd be interested to see the actual financial fallout from it.
Does it give it back for all years following?
How would your next insurer deal with the knowledge that yes you did claim last year but you were insured for your excess - you still had something nicked and they might not like it.
I'm always wary of the slimy twats.

Insurance for insurance . . . decide how likely you are to make a claim and weigh up the options. You wouldn't necessarily claim for every incident you had (e.g. a slow speed drop which can be fixed with £150 of eBay bits) and even a higher value one you might not, although strictly speaking you're supposed to declare all incidents regardless of a claim I think.

For just £50 I can offer you excess insurance insurance, up to the value of £30.

If you have to pay an excess as a result of a claim which was not your fault, then you claim back the excess as part of your heads of damages under the term "Special Damages"

In other words, your legal representative has a duty to claim back your excess as part of your uninsured losses and so costs you nothing.

If you are involved in a damage only and someone is the cause, the excess can still be claimed back.

If you have a crash or a claim which is your fault, I suspect that the excess is going to be the last of your concerns

So why pay for something that is not going to be required 95% of the time?

You can pay for NCB Protection on most policies.

You are alowed a few claims before you lose whatever NCB/NCD you have earned.

Another issue is even if whatever was not your fault and you recover your uninsured loses (Your eccess) then an insurer may still load any future premiums.

The truth is Insurers and their brokers don't care what charity you do for they will take what they can. Smile

Presumably excess insurance is for if your bike gets stolen or if you claim from your own fully comp policy for something that was your fault.

Whether it's worth having for £30 depends on how much his excess is. I'd base my decision on that and the t&c's of the excess insurance

NCB Protection is something a lot of people have these days.
Insurance companies get round it now by tarting your premium up like crazy if you have any accident.

It's almost like what losing your no claims was like before.

There are some companies who break up policies into components and sell the parts as add-ons.

I had car insurance a while back from Liv Vic.

The cunts never provided euro cover. Euro cover is or was always more or less a standard component of most policies.

Now the bastirts are hacking lumps off here and there to price match on comparison sites.

Excess insurance:

Received my insurance renewal today.

£73 last year - £114 this year.

No claims, points, bans etc etc and now up to 6 years NCB (though no claims in 34 years).

That did include £25 "taking the piss" renewal fee.

Now that's excessive!

Back to MCN for new quotes....

I had it on my R1. when it was stolen, I took a low offer, as didn't know any better, and the £500 excess I believed was going to be returned.

After 6 weeks of no money, I contacted them, only to be told it didn't cover theft claims! Evil or Very Mad

I was not happy. Never taken that since, and only been offered it once since then anyway.
