A long press on the horn can work with the incalcitrant, resentful, unhappy type of pedestrian who knows you're approaching and wants to make a point.

Car drivers don't respond to horns though, especially piddling bike ones - they can block it out mentally. That's where the 'rev bomb' can come into its own. It doesn't matter what Reddit or Quora or the internet says. I know that if I take my "db killer" out, a lot of helpful car drivers in traffic jams move to the side to let me pass. I don't need to do it on purpose by revving - they simply hear me coming even though they're in cars. It's bound to help with cyclists who are all over the road too. I think the OP is too sensitive, and 40 years' experience should result in better knowledge about things like whether your scooter has a mechanically driven speedo or an electrical one... Anyway, that's by the by. Revving at cars (for those who do it) isn't the end of the world, nor is it mine nor anyone else's business. If it works it works.

I used to deliberately lock the wheels on my car to make the tyres screech. They jump a fucking mile when you do that, sometimes even drop their phone.

ABS put a stop to that bit of fun though.

Cold shower time?

My horn sounds like a wet flannel with comb whistle....

This reminds me, what ever the bike i get next, putting a proper exhaust on it, nothing glass shattering. Just something nice to hear.
