OP, if it's the c800 you've posted about before, the figures I found are 3.2 quarts for an oil change.

That's about 3000 ml

Wait, you mean the "3300" on the side of my Bandit engine doesn't mean it has been bored-out to 3.3 litres?

Disappointed.

Is it alright to put "10W40" in my engine? From the cap I think it needs "710" grade...

Depends on the ambient temperature + some engines use thicker/thinner oil on purpose.

I was going to say I don't want to labour the point, but actually I do. Miles aren't SI units, and I doubt many engineering firms nowadays would use them as units.... Even Buell were mostly metric with the imperial stuff being relogated to the Engine...

Hawd it you....

3.2 UK Quarts is 3.636872 Liters

3.2 US Quarts is 3.0283294272 Liters.

I will assume the Zipper Heids use Imperial Gallons

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_units_of_measurement

But they have their own stuff too which is Japanese/Dutch to me.

Never one to flounce from a thread. I'll own up.

I read on the forum for my bike some guy posted that it says 3000 miles next to the oil sight glass so I just assumed he was right, I never took a close look. Turns out it is ml. But even that is incorrect as the bike will take 3.6-3.8 litres with a filter change.
I do my own oil/filter changes and always go by the bikes handbook anyway, ive never only put 3 litres in.
Plus I had had a bit to drink when making this thread Laughing

Maybe if you look closely (should've gone to specsavers etc) it actually says 3600ml ?
They won't be effectively advising to not put enough oil in.

Nope. Maybe the 3000 means the difference between the top fill line and the low line maybe? Though that is usually only one litre. Wouldn't make sense to lose 3 litres before showing low oil.

Same bike see here, timestamped

Thanks for watching. Haven't really made the air filter and spark plug replacement. I will post one someday. I use 3.7 liters of oil. Watch the little window on the oil tank when you fill it. Try not to overfill. Have someone keep the bike upright if you don't have it on a jack stand and keep the bike leveled on the ground 0 deg. Good luck and God bless.

I got Shell Advance 4T AX7 10W-40 - 4Ltr at ECP for £20 the other day Smile You can often get it at around that price. I'd go for that sort of thing and your recommended change intervals, although it's not a highly stressed engine, 'cos oil's relatively cheap compared to problems.

3000 is the bottom level of the sight glass with no filter change... duh.

If it has a sight glass then you ignore the numbers and fill to halfway up the glass. Some sight glass have a wee dot on the reflective backing of the sight glass to indicate full.

That is normally cold oil bike uprite.

But do not take the word of the internet. If you are in doubt fone the dealer.

And if you are worried, if you can see the oil in the sight glass then there is more than enough oil.

If you cannot see oil in the sight glass then you should worry.

There are 195 countries in the UN. Out of the 195 countries , how many of them use miles , rather than Kilometres?

As far as I know the answer to that question is 4 ...
The Brits and the Yanks , Myanmar ( used to be Burma)and Liberia, , the other 191 countries all use the metric system, so please explain the reasoning behind that Suzuki put a servicing distance on a casting in a unit that is completely meaningless to 95% of the worlds population?

You might consider that it could , just could be the capacity in ml after all. Plainly sez 1100ml on my Suzuki.

OK yours might take more , does it by chance have a large oil cooler?

Oil is still cheap......engines are expensive......if a high mileage rider....change every 2000 miles.....if you're not....every 12 months.

To update this thread (I've been meaning to do it for a while)

The OP posted the workshop manual for his bike in another thread:

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1042330/Suzuki-Vl800.html?page=545

The service intervals are 600,4000,7500 miles. None of which are 3000, nor 3000 apart. And if you convert them to KM, there is no 3000 in there either...

Hi Mr Dunning, meet Mr Kruger...
